  1. Porcelain tiles are awful to drill you need a diamond drill not sure of the quality of the ones below. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6mm-Diamond-Holesaw-Glass-Slate-Porcelain-Marble-Tile-Drill-Bits-Tool-10-/262114156824?hash=item3d0738a118:g:~3AAAOSwhcJWLyvK

  3. From personal experience I would drain the diesel tank completely , I had trouble with contaminated fuel and used an additive which was called fortrans I think, it claimed to encapsulate the contamination in microbeads which would burn harmlessly the trouble was no-one informed the fuel filter to let these encapsulated fellas pass through for harmless burning .
  4. I think the only way you could compress paper and twigs etc into something dense enough to burn for more than 20 minutes is if you get the Incredible Hulk to press the thing down for you , Now he was very "GREEN"
  5. How is the burning of these logs "GREEN " ?
  6. The lock in question is probably one of the few that as many people here have mentioned seperates two different companies Canals. A delay of five minutes using this lock can cause a delay of 50 minutes if you miss the ten minutes slot for passage through the tunnel. Maybe this lock will be removed when Peel holdings have finished stripping the assets of the Bridgewater canal and let B.W. take over the running of the Canal,
  7. the majority of engines are negative earth it sounds as if you have your battery leads the wrong way round, as I said before due to the nature of boats and boaters expect the unexpected any colour cables that were available may have been used! but there should be only one cable that will fit on the spade terminal . if you search this site there should be some basic wiring diagrams if not someone will point you in the right direction. Chris
  8. You should have a large cable from the battery positive to the large stud on the solenoid together with the cable from the alternator. There should be a white cable with red stripe going to the spade connector on the solenoid , battery negative should go to a nut on the body/base of the starter motor . please note this is a typical arrangement and as with most boat electrical systems expect the unexpected Chris
  9. The M.S.C.C used to use lorenz's to clear some of the debris on the Bridgewater Canal, weather they were also employed to do the same on the Ship canal I am unsure.

  11. I am 39 my wife is 2years younger than me my son is 14 going on 40 it is sometimes hard when on a long journey to keep him entertained . It is sometimes hard to justify owning a boat as we still want to explore the rest of the world as well as the inland waterways, but is hard when working in the building trade where you only have 11days holidays to choose the rest being compulsory at easter and christmas. My son is growing up at a rapid rate of knots and the parental radar detects females on the horizon so looks like the weekends away will have to be divided so that he can do "normal stuff". Hopefully he will return to a life on the cut as quite a few of you seem to have done . If it is affordable enough for him in the future as in the 5 years we have owned our boat it has become evident that the powers that be seem to be trying to find a level they can get away with charging.
