  1. Do the wheels come off before you launch, likewise the hitch? .How do you launch without wheels,or can they be removed once the boat is in the water.? can not imagine the wheels and hitch surviving for long under water. I like the idea for exploring isolated waterways, but would like to know how it all works.

The Caracruiser has a separate trailer from which it is launched in the conventional way.The Caraboat, however, carries it`s towing gear with it and is launched by simply rolling it down the slipway and sailing away.As for the wheels and hitch not surviving long under water, mine is still going since I restored it 15 years ago and fitted replacement wheels and hubs(for safety`s sake), with the original suspension units, towing hitch and chassis from 1972.Is that long enough?

  2.

Not me, I have a Wilderness Water Rat. But it is often confused with a Caraboat.

I know a bloke with a Caraboat, and know that there is one moored on the Leek arm of the Caldon.

The one on the Leek arm is a Caracruiser not a Caraboat.

  3. Hi,I`m trying to contact this club through thier website contacts page, but when I try to send my message,it refuses to connect.Ive tried several times in the last week, but no joy.I was just wondering if anyone on here could help with a contact address or phone number.Any help appreciated, thanks.

  4. Just did, they look funny! do they wobble much?

It`s the most stable boat I`ve ever had.It has a cathedral hull, which is almost like a catamaran.Interior space is bigger than any other boat of it`s size.We absolutely love it.(It can also turn in it`s own length,so no need for winding holes).

  5. mokjumbo spot on just spoke with a really nice lady that can get it for me in one day and its cheaper than going to america just what i was after many thanks A.T.B Paul and cheers to all that replied

That was probably Kath or her daughter.Kath probably knows more about inland boats than anyone else I know.Glad to have helped.

  6. i know that most people on here are more into narrow boats and inboard diesels but i have a yoghurt pot and need a new coil for my honda motor.but i am finding honda marine seems almost non existant or like a secret society in the uk can anyone point me at someone or somewhere that i can just phone up and get one without all the we"ll have to phone you back in a day or two if i needed one for my car i just pop down the local uni part dealer and get one but i am finding it easier to get one from america than england which does"nt seem right to me, all help and suggestions appreciated

Stone boatbuilders(www.stoneboatbuilding.co.uk) have always been my first choice for Honda marine parts.Hope this helps.

  7. (I haven't looked at the listing)

They're potentially great little boats, 12 ft. ? long so quite tiny with not al loot of room for anythnig.

The principal advantage is that they have their own built in trailer - just hitch it up and off you go, more flexible than the smallest Sea Otter and much cheaper.

There was one on the river Wey called "Ron's A Wey" - think the owner got a lot of fun out of it.

Seemed to be a clamshell fibreglass construction (that's where "tupperware" originated not because boats were ugly.

A bit over 16 ft long actually, and very roomy inside. There`s no trailer as such, all the wheels and towhitch are built into the boat. Are you sure you`re not confusing it with a Caracruiser, which is quite a different beast?

  8. As we are on a rivers only licence we originally used the explorer as a top up when we ventured onto parts of the system not covered by our licence.

We now just purchase a weeks extra licence if we venture onto other waterways not covered by our current licence. It works out cheaper anyway.

We use a 30 day explorer licence for our Caraboat as it allows us to use the boat for ANY 30 days in the year and they do not have to be consecutive. So we can get up to 4 separate weeks holiday. Thus making it a very reasonable price.

  9. I don't see any mention of Boat Safety Certificate. Checking other adverts for boats will suggest the key information needed to attract people who might be interested in buying rather than just looking at an interesting and unusual boat.

Hi,if using a Caraboat as a `visiting boat`,with an explorer licence,a safety certificate is not needed.

  10. Know anyone with a satnav? They usually show petrol stations.

There is one right by the canal at Grindley Brook. One by the canal on the Calverley straight - not on your route but only about half a mile from Barbridge junction.

One fairly near the end of the arm at Ellesmere.

One near Chirk close to the canal on the A5

One not too far from the canal in Llangollen

Hi,I usually take my satnav, which shows fuel stations close to the canal.

  11. Have you a website on your boat Mokjumbo? I know I came across one describing their rebuild of one

    Richard

Hi,no I haven`t a website but there is (or was)a site about a Caraboat refit but I can`t remember his name .Try looking on the Caraboat club website to see if you can trace it. Just remembered his name .Tom Bradley.Hope this helps.
