  1. It would almost need a scaffold being knocked into the bottom of the cut around her and lining with timber and plastic sheeting and then the water being pumper out around her if that would even work then depending on how bad the holes in her were they could be plugged and the mud cleared out so she could be floated and then moved. but even if that would work i suppose its down to costs and man power.
  2. I've been out of the loop for over a year now as me and wife moved back from london to northampton. And with all the normal jobs doing up house and starting the model making buisiness back up i havent had the time to go and find out whats going on. Now im back in town if people get together to raise her i will make sure i am free to come and help and with the skills ive gather over the last few years id be more than willing to help with the restoration of her. (silly Question now) If she couldnt raised or lifted in one piece due to her breaking up would it be possible to take her apart plank by plank and then transport her to dryland?
  3. Hi carl so is there any news on umbriel? has his other 2 boats sunk aswell yet?
  4. Any more new on umbriel? keep trying to get down there to have a look but spare time is hard to get at the moment.
  5. I've got a good idea instead of blasting back and forwards at one another why not all go down and :help:help raise Umbriel weather you like or dislike the boat. As it will ether brake her or fingers crossed get her up and clear the waterway one way or another. All the hot air on hear we could attach a balloon canopy to her and let you blow it you she'll be raise in minuets
  6. I remember Umbriel sinking in the Hatton flight when mike owned here and he waited till night time and drained the pound she was in repair the hole job done. The only trouble was the excess water going into the lower pond ended up flooding the BP station. oops In reply to Evo's small minded comments If it hadn't been for wooden working boats you wouldn't have a canal to float your boat! Umbriel was built in August 1935 which means she belongs on the canal a lot more than yours does! This picture was of her June 1937 At the opening of the new frogmore wharf slipway. As i built a model replica of Umbriel i have researched a lot about her and she was also the first boat i ever drove pictured here. And this is a picture of here with a full top while owner by Larrance Hogg 1984 and to carlt once we have moved which hopefully will be in the next month ill be going down to lend a hand with her.
  7. So if they cannot get her up what will they do because they can't really get a crane down there? Or will it be a dredger breaking it up. I'd just love the engine whatever state it is in now!
  8. Thanks for the reply. I was hoping to get down and have a look at her but we are busy getting ready to move house. I do hope she has'nt broken apart but if she has it might make it easyer to get on the bank in 2 half's! even if they could shorten her once out it would be better than seeing another old wooden boat be destroyed. A shame they couldnt get her next to lucy.
  9. Hi All Is there any news on umbriel? or recent pictures?
  10. Hi is there any pictures of the boat yet?
  11. Hi Carl My mum and dad saw mick last week in dav and he said he had been trying to get her refloating but didnt have anuff pumps and when they told me i remembered in surrey ive got a big industrial pump sat in the fathering laws garage. It hasnt been used for years but if i check it work when i go down at the weekend i could bring it back. Do you think this would be any good? or could you find out if they still need pumps as i dont have any numbers any1. Cheers Dale
  12. yep sorry your right im getting mistaken. I've actually got a picture of umbriel taken in 1984 when owned by larance hogg when i was named king george and as a full livabord in guccc colors. thanks for correcting me
  13. wow that a big change from narrowboats  so are you living near the coast now or you just travel up there often? sure keeping your carpentry skill busy
  14. So are you lending a hand with with the rebuild carl? Next time im down i will have to arrange to see lucy as now would be a great opertunity to get full mesurments to make a model of her that could olso help raise money for the charity rebuilding her if they go to shows to raise money a nice model could sit on the table to show what she will look like when rebuilt.
