  9. Forget the flow switch, that’s just something else to go wrong. Switch it on when you need it and off when you’ve finished. It won’t mind running dry for short periods.

  13. OMG i hate computers, just spent an hour trying to download pictures. Think my laptop is overloaded with pics so i had to delete a few hundred. So here goes for the update, again not much but still bits done.I started to make the new cabin step, not sure if i mentioned that before, it is being made from the left over Iroko off cuts of the old school work top i got for the galley worktop. It is not yet done but as soon a si have done this i will be doing a bit more.I have had the Propex HS2000 heater going for the last few weekends to see how it coped with the cold temps. All i can say is that even with no hatch and the cabin door not sealed and lots of drafts it is great. Today the temps got down to -2degC and the heater was set half way and it held the temp at 17degC with ease. So i am happy there. Little job was to fit the finger door pulls i made a week or so ago, no big job but done atleast.Clamped inplace while the glue is setting image: https://s5.postimg.org/o4vw9xe9j/tn_20171202_101618_011.jpg About a year ago John ( jfm ) sent me some goodies and these are what was in the box. These courtesy lights give a nice cosy feel now. I wired them to a switch on the radio box. image: https://s5.postimg.org/wady8acuv/tn_20171210_161857.jpg image: https://s5.postimg.org/duthas3uf/tn_20171210_161809.jpg Most of this weekend i have been onto the Heads, i decided to use the bathroom PVC wall cladding but not the trim as the cost is way over priced IMO. The cladding cost £42 for four packs which has done all the Heads and more to do the cupboard when i do the frame work. The trim would of been at least £80. With that i have decided as said to use silicone so the joints are very close together so i can get a good bead down the joints. At the minute the panels are stapled in place.Again as before to get the quickest and best profile i used the canvas. Well worth the £10 it cost for 8m of the stuff, it was a off cut/roll end from an awning manufacturers. Just pushed in place and stapled before running a pencil into the corner. The staples easy pull out when you need to remove it. image: https://s5.postimg.org/rbqftk6fb/tn_20171210_105535.jpg A few more measurements and then mark out. image: https://s5.postimg.org/h1o0ucj4n/tn_20171210_111356.jpg And fit image: https://s5.postimg.org/hr6t6ntxz/tn_20171210_112533.jpg All done but for the door and rear lower panel as this will be removable incase access is needed to the water tank pipes. image: https://s5.postimg.org/yeyb9aegn/tn_20171210_145646.jpg image: https://s5.postimg.org/nfd3xqlhj/tn_20171210_145632.jpg image: https://s5.postimg.org/5nww5re6v/tn_20171210_145556.jpg image: https://s5.postimg.org/b0qbxdbyv/tn_20171210_151258.jpg Once i have siliconed the panels inplace i will be making a small cupboard along the port side, on narrow so as not to take up to much room. Running along that under the port hole will be a towel rail. Like i do i spent hours and hours choosing light for the heads and i have decided to go with these. Two will be fitted from the corner above the sink. image: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/6WkAAOSwyltZUfsH/s-l1600.jpg https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302363560...r=601199625846I am on the look out now for a SS or aluminium port hole liner to finish it off nice.I will be ordering the shower head next month from Germany, the one i posted to last update. Need a switch yet for the heads light also. Today the batteries ran to low to run the heater so i need a charger now, debating if to get a cheap one for now or a decent one for when the boat is done. And one or two of these. I would like one for each of the two batteries.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAC1100A-...53.m1438.l2649Things to buy, it never ends.....such fun i love it Righto i am off to rip some Iroko up :)

  14. Mr Duker obviously considers himself an expert boater and is using this forum to let us all know that, he is also handing out bad advice to Newbies, and likes a good argument. It must be Tony Dunkley ................Dave

  18. Weather forecast today is 37 degrees and I have just got a text from auspost saying my parcel has arrived!!!! Eco fan I believe. my original plan was to put it on the campervan roof connect a belt to it and run the aircon off it so I don't have to plug in at caravan parks. However given the slight cold in the vicinity of northamptonshire both my tenant and my boat are chilly. as a gesture towards the uk I will angle it towards the northern hemisphere . expect a blast of hot air on Thursday. strangely coinciding with political statements re brexit. apologies for the delay it's 13000 miles so will take time.

  19. 500mW is half a watt, so 5W radios are ten times the power of PMR radios, not a thousand times the power. MoominPapa the pedant is now returning you to your normal scheduled program. MP.

  22. All PMR radios are limited to the same power, but that should be plenty to communicate between 2 boats travelling together I would have thought. If you were using VHF to communicate between the 2 boats you would want to use 1 watt mode anyway, transmitting at 20 watts to a boat close by would not make sense.

  23. Zello is wonderful! It works over 3G, 4G, or wifi and it's 'push to talk' so you can have a lot of fun. When I know that my wife is in the supermarket I can press the button and say, " are those two old women still blocking the aisle with their trolleys and gibb-gabbering?" They turn around, looking for a rude man and see my wife. That really messes with their minds!

  29. No because there's no buzzer sounding and it looked to me like the ignition key was in the off position. Having witnessed some of the filming on the Stratford canal episode, I can confirm that a lot was done for effect. I'm think Tim's crashing into locks and bridge holes is all staged, after all the programme is aimed at Joe public and not experienced boaters.

  31. I wanged our Crowther prop really hard on a rock, when we eventually docked for blacking there was just a slight chip on the edge of one blade. Very sturdy casting.

  35. I have a feeling that you will find that your Crowthers prop will turn out to be rather heavier than the Vetus one. I get the impression that many salty water boat props (and Vetus seem to have their expertise in that area) are rather thinner than those made specifically for inland boats and canal boats in particular.

  38. Nah I reckon its more straightforward than that. You pay the £3k BIN price, then nothing arrives. You contact ebay to complain and they say nothing to do with them, and then it turns out you bought it from a fraudulent ebal/paypal cloned site. The switch occurring when he emails you the link to the 'special ebay BIN listing' he promises to create 'just for you'.

  40. I agree that an analogue gauge is good for a quick check, but for current, a 200A analogue gauge just does not have the resolution to read a tail current of two or three amps.

  44. A few points cross my mind having read this thread. 1) Early posts talk about electricity being expensive as a heating fuel. This is a pointless comment as the source of the leccy is critically important. Off-grid generated leccy generated using diesel is probably far more expensive than even marina-supplied leccy. It is probaly little or no more expensive than using the same diesel to heat water to heat some radiators or blown air, given electric heating is usually 100% efficient. 2) Infra-red is radiation. So technically, infra-red underfloor heating seems a bit odd. The floor under which the infra-red heating is happening will be presumably being heated by the infra-red radiation, heating up and consequently heating the boat. Unnecessarily complicated and no help with fuel efficiency. A nice hot floor however is nice to have. 3) A typically well insulated 57ft boat probably needs about 3kW (or a hellvalot more if poorly insulated) to heat it in cold weather when outside temp is 0C, never mind that 1.24kW figure mentioned. Plain silliness. Coal is FAR cheaper per kWhr of energy than diesel. One helluva hot floor will be needed to deliver 3kW+ heating onto a boat. 4) Their suggestion that solar input is useful and significant in freezing weather illustrates their technical bankruptcy. 5) There will always be a rump of technically illiterate and financially loaded people willing to buy into bollux such as this. The OP seems convinced so perhaps they will invest in the system and prove me wrong.
