  1. As suggested - here we are Gents & Ladies! If anyone thinks they have an issue with a SmartGauge it's important to us. I am sorry it has taken us so long to catch up. The SmartGauge is an absolutely fantastic product so we clearly need to address your concerns. If anyone has a unit that they believe has this problem then please call us to arrange its return. If we conclude there is a problem then we will replace it immediately free of charge. I will say that we have conducted reviews on a couple of the small number of units returned to us and found there to be no issue however we also don't doubt the experience of many customers on this forum. You know your electrics far better than us. In addition to replacing any units found to be faulty, we will also offer an "at cost" upgrade to our DataCell I or DataCell II battery monitors if you are interested. The DataCell I will monitor multiple battery banks for voltage and SoC. The DataCell II will also monitor SoH (State of Health) as well as other parameters too... (Blame Gibbo - he's still at it!)... 01202 697979

  3. Well, I guess if they initially take time to read all the smartgauge related posts it might be a while before they make their first post. I predict 2021, but may be 10% out

  5. You missed the 1995 Act then eh, just 22 years ago?! But I agree with your point. I think this bloke pitched up recently on the cut assuming it was well, 'just there' and a 'free for all'. And now he is discovering the regulations one by one, and each is coming as a rude awakening. The poor flower.

  12. Yes you’re right. My gliders impact on other when I crash into them they see me soaring majestically and silently like an eagle over the Cairngorms. When they see my Europa whizzing around at high speed looking sexy. When they see our fantastic boat raising the tone of the local waterscape. When they benefit from my alcohol-augmented wit and repartee. Impact has good and bad attributes. A bit like quarks.

  13. I recall Malcolm Braine saying that strictly speaking NB should only be used when referring to an unpowered narrow boat i.e. a butty or a horse drawn boat. A motor narrow boat should be M B. He always used MB for motor narrow boats. Regards David L

  16. A word of advice. Dunno about this time of year but the flight is 'manned' by CRT staff and chained up out of hours. You have to get there before about 3pm to be allowed to enter. AND you have to find a locky and sign in rather than arrive and just wait patiently. Guess how I know this... You need a restaurant for good food. It's BEER that pubs are good at.

  17. Let me explain. PUBS are for good beer. A secondary use but by no means a necessity is the provision of food. I have however eaten there and iirc it was fine. I can state quite categoricaly that the beers were even better

  22. Oh Gawd. Not him. Sadly, a fellow IoW resident. My response when others complain about what an easy job teaching is/all those holidays etc is: "OK. If it's such an easy job why aren't doing it?" But then I might have responed to their question along the lines of "What do you like about teaching" by saying 'August!"

  24. Its not just "Supply and Demand" though. As already said, with parents fined for taking children out of school in term time, holiday operators of all types must have seen the number of term-time bookings from families fall to near zero. So they need to charge more money on those weeks when they can sell their holiday in order to stay in business.

  27. Nope. CH ones definitely have the bag. The bag perishes after about ten years generating a healthy flow of work for people like me! This, amongst a load of others, is the main reason sealed system heating systems are a Bad Thing in my personal opinion.

  28. Just to to other explanations, when a calorifier heats up the water expands, if there is no closed air space for water to expand into it will push the pressure relief open and water will seep past it.

  29. I contacted Merlin about my out of calibration SG,unfortunately it was too old for them to be interested. It was recalibrated by myself with instructions from some kind person on here, prompted by MTB pointing it out, so thanks to both.

  30. An accumulator after the pump reduces cycling of the pump as most pump just at a certain flow. So if you have a tap on low the pump will be off/on/off/on/off. The accumulator keeps a constant pressure on the system (and supply of water so think of it as a buffer) so the pump has longer cycles (bigger the accumulator the longer the cycle). Some pumps have variable flow so don't require a accumulator. An expansion tank is for the hot water side and is recommended if you have something like a calorfier as the large water in the tank heated up will increase the pressure and make the PRV leak, etc. The expansion tank is just takes the extra instead. As most gas heater systems heat the water as you turn the tap on there is no hot water getting heated in a tank to increase the pressure, etc. An expansion tank is required for central heating if a closed system (ie no header tank).

  36. Could it be that when the fan is on the top of the stove there is no room for the kettle, take the fan off, replace it with the kettle and the water boils ?

  38. I have indulged in having 2 dogs... They do not jump up on strangers (but love to sit on or next to those they are familiar with) but are a bit excitable in new places so may yap to display their exuberance (which is why I tend to sit outside of those establishments that welcome dogs) and only as puppies in training have disgraced themselves by leaving any sort of calling card on floors / carpets etc. (and yes, when out I pick up after them - then dispose of the bags in a bin, not hang them on trees / bushes for others to admire) An intereresting concept - children being an indulgence of their owners - if not for that indulgence I, for one. wouldn't be making any comments on this forum or anywhere else -but then no-one else would either

  42. Actually, I think it's the original premise that's wrong - most of us, CCers or home moorers, pay our licences and don't really worry too much about those who don't. I've never heard anyone, in thirty years of boating, kick off about unlicensed boaters though I have heard loads of moaning about dredging, lousy mooring practices, bust facilities, broken locks and thoughtless driving. It's one of those nonsense subjects that raises the hackles of about three people who make a lot of noise. The rest of us just quietly get on pottering about.

  43. Exactly! and of those home moorers / marina dwellers there are far more than that in places like shardlow marina where licencing isnt necessary and there are many boats that never actually move. Every online marina i have been at has been fastidious in ensuring every boat is fully licenced/insured and held a current BSS just a shame it isnt so easy to police the CMers that seem to get away with flaunting the system. 47. I think the problem here is what 'inconveniencing others' means to a dog owner and a non dog owner. I would agree with Nick it is a problem and that a big proportion of dog owners do not know what is an 'inconvenience'. We've been dog owners for 30 years but not for the last 15years as sailing took over. For the past 3 years I have regularly (5 days per week) been to our local nature reserve taking photos of birds (big lens, monopod - like the footy photographers). I walk around for 3 hours or so and get sick of dogs bounding up to me (not on leads) and plastering my legs with muddy paws. "Oh, fido is just playing..." says the owner. Rubbish! My trousers are now plastered in mud. The local dogs have learnt - as they get a smart smack in the face with my monopod - so now dont come near, but my wife spends a lot of time fending these dogs off. I would estimate over half the dogs do this and their owners do not think it a problem. Why should a dog be allowed to jump up and dirty my trousers? Having owned dogs for most of our lives, I am sympathetic with current owners but times have changed. Ok, only a very small sample of UK dogs but typical of so many places. Maybe we should follow the Singapore model, no dogs off leads in public places!!!!

  48. It is a matter of whether pets are more important than other human beings. Your point about babies and disabled people fails because they are humans. Ducks are wild animals that can fly or swim in and out, so not possible to ban them. So that just leaves pets. If other boaters want to have pets that remain within their boat, then fine (as long as they don’t make undue noise) but they should not be able to roam over other people’s boats or public space. Of course, responsible owners wouldn’t let that happen but unfortunately most owners take the view that their pets are more important than other humans and the little darlings must be allowed to express themselves freely (by shitting and scratching wherever and whenever they feel like it)
