  1. Hi all. Don't Enter the Water........it's bloomin' cold. After 14 years of boat ownership I have finally taken a plunge. Reached too far to pull the boat into the side when mooring this afternoon in Nantwich. I wasn't in for long, Margaret and an elderly passing gent pulled me out. As others have said before, I just panicked. I don't mind water and am quite confident in water, but I think a mixture of cold shock and utter embarrassment stopped me thinking straight. Anyway hot shower and dry clothes I am non the worse for wear. Bruised shins and sore wrist. We have a ladder available, but I'm not convinced it would have been any use, I just froze n more than one way. Martyn. (At last,a real Boater.)

  3. Congrats, what ever you have plans for changing the boat, use the boat first as they are bound to change.

  4. If anyone has a copy, have a look at the 'Featured Boat Sales' from Wincham Wharf Boat Sales on page 93. The first boat has an 'overplayed' baseplate, amusing enough, but it's the third one that gets me. Can anyone enlighten me please as to what a 'Pompous toilet' is...?!

  5. Sound advice. Some advice is throw away, others must be taken seriously. I had a few pints of 'Old Dog' in the Barbridge Inn yesterday. No money in my wallet. Barbridge has it all. My iPhone is in a bowl of uncooked rice. Grandson says that the rice attracts Asians and they come and fix it overnight. Worth athought.

  6. Yes to both of those, but shouldn't this be in General Boating, not the Development Area? I'll report myself to get it moved.

  11. Claytons yard was situated between Stone Street bridge and Oldbury Junction, that's it on P41 in Philip Weaver's book looking North East from beneath Stone Street Bridge. Just beyond the footbridge in the distance is Oldbury Junction. The Gloster has come from Spon Lane Junction - beyond that footbridge. The picture of the same location is in the lower image on P41 looking the same way (believe it or not!). Empty and sterile. Sorry Victor - when they incorrectly turn left into the Titford Canal, they are turning South towards Titford Pools - dead end. When they back-track and turn left at Oldbury Junction they are heading West Nor West towards Tipton Junction and Wolverhampton - the WRONG way! But that's the film makers continuity for you - non existent. All they want are 'scenes' at 'locations', it's all about the story and not the geography. Birmingham is in effect BEHIND them, and off to the East S. East as the crow flies. Where Claytons yard used to be is now beneath the M5, which at the time of filming had not been built. Claytons boats ceased transporting goods in 1966, around the time of the filming, hence the derelict state of boats thereabouts. Not as clear as I'd like I'm afraid. Click on the image to enlarge.

  13. I had hoped the OP would have been of historical interest. Seems the thread has become a Tim Coughlan fest.

  14. That's your opinion Alan but a lot of cc and live aboard go for Trojans or even better 2 volt cell tractions, then look after them for years of service. Neil

  18. You could also run the engine to do what boaters 'do' (go boating) and take the battery charging as a secondary benefit. If you are never going to move, then you don't need a 'main engine' just get a generator installed in the 'engine hole'.
