  3. BBQ pulled pork with sides... Get a joint of bacon, steep in water over night, change water regular to remove salt, slap in to slow cooker on a bed of chopped onion, vine tomatoes, garlic a sweet pepper and what not,Sling a dose of BBQ sauce,Worcestershire, liquid smoke, chipotle Tabasco and what other gunk is lying around in the cupboard.Throw some spices of your choosing in ie.smoked paprika, chili powder etc. Turn on,walk away for 4 or 5 hours.Come back, rip meat apart, burn fingers, scald tongue and let the flavors penetrate the meat on a low heat for a few more hours or while you prepare the sides. POTATO SALAD Boil small /new spudz ,chop roughly sling a bit of mayo, herbs, finely chopped shallot, spoon of Dijon mustard, two boiled eggs and black pepper in.Leave out what you dont have or do not want. COLESLAW Grate carrot,a little bit of onion and finely chop white cabbage.Mix in a bowl with mayo black pepper.Little bit of sugar if you like the American style, herbs if you so choose and sometimes i sling in some sesame seeds just to be all fancy. MAC AND CHEESE Boil up some macaroni or if you have none, use some penne [which i did],If you cant make a roux [which i cant be bothered to do] just slap the penne in to an oiled pyrex, lash in some grated sharp cheddar and any other cheese you like,a knob of butter and a fair glug of milk, cream if you dont mind the jogging afterwards.sling in the oven till nice and gooey looking.30 minutes or so.dont let the pasta over bake or its like trying to eat calf nuts. serve together and enjoy with a bucket of beer, left overs go for sambo's the next day. Although not the healthiest of meals, you can not bother with the mac and cheese and substitute half sour cream and half mayo for a slightly healthier option. If you cant be bothered with the sides, just make the pulled pork and sling it between two slices of bread. And that my dear was all she wrote.........

  4. I get 3 ham hocks for 6 quid and cook them in a very similar way to the OP's bacon joint. One hock is plenty for a family meal for four plus sandwiches the next day and tastes just as good as any other bit of the pig. Unfashionable does not necessarily mean poor quality but I just hope those hocks don't catch on and rise to "chic" prices like Lamb shanks have done.

  6. Whilst I find what Lady M is reporting very sad, why do you once again lay the blame on CRT? Do they flush engine oil down the Elsan? Do they encourage boaters to abstract electricity? Do they carry out fly tipping? Do they steal the fixtures and fittings or vandalise them? It would clearly be ideal to restore the site to its former 'glory' but on the other hand until the anti-social problems there have been resolved CRT may just as well flush the cash down the Elsan (on the occasions that it isn't blocked!). If idiots sledgehammered the toilets any suggestion of 'improve the security' is just a joke. Why fit the place out with new fixtures and fitting for someone to rip them all out for scrap? It is just giving free cash to criminals. It isn't an easy problem to solve but if it is to be solved it will have to be jointly with the local authority but since they are all strapped for cash, this is unfortunately the way the the UK in general will be going. Since the coalition have decided that we don't really need Police there is no point in asking for any action from them either, there ain't enough of them to deal with the serious stuff.

  10. Sorry, but I don't think Dave is sneering very much more than you are at him! "Pamela" may be her birth name, but although I would not count her as a friend, each time I have met her, she has introduced herself to me, and others, as "Panda", not as "Pamela". In my limited experience, Pamela seems to be reserved more for formalities, (like her many FOIA requests to CRT). To me she is better known as "Panda", and less easily confused with anybody else called Pamela Smith, so that is probably how I would refer to her. If I did, it would be with no intention of indicating anything to do with friendship on the one hand, or a sneer on the other. Still this has not been without some educational value - at least Magnetman now knows references to Pamela Smith and Panda Smith are probably to the same person. EDIT: To acknowledge that the reference to "rentaquote" I would say is more of a sneer that the choice Dave used for her name!

  11. Panda is a familiar name for Pamela Smith so I guess Mayalld is just attempting a sneer - as he is certainly no friend of hers. I figure, and would have though Mayalld intelligent enough to work out too, that part of the journalistic process is to garner quotes from their contacts who are qualified to take a view on a situation -- Ms Smith is eminently qualified, as spokesperson for NBTA, to give their view on the situation. It may be he's jealous they didn't ask his opinion. Perhaps they thought she more qualified than an IT technician from Macclesfield.

  14. CALLISTO and ARA were paired together from about 1975 to August 2000, but under two different owners. At the time the above photograph was taken CALLISTO and ARA were contracted to Union Canal Carriers Ltd. as steered camping boats.

  16. Don't you think there's enough silt in winding holes without people putting a bucket full of silt a day in to them

  17. I think you're working unnecessarily hard to ensure that you get your Christmas card from Parry. The Hackney CC'ers probably haven't realised that they don't need to pay C&RT, or get their permission. I hope they do now.

  28. I'm sure it is. We actually end up with a somewhat circular argument here, with people pleading that they can't CC because they need to be in one place and can't get a mooring because they are too expensive. There is a logical conclusion to be drawn here, namely that they cannot afford the lifestyle that they desire where they want it. It is harsh, but true. To then argue that they MUST have what they want, and a way MUST be found for them to afford it is nonsensical. How do you decide who can have one of these moorings? Must I adhere to some kind of collective mindset? Perhaps I can get in on the personal recommendation of two others who are already in? Perhaps a cheap mooring is the reward for years of non-compliance, and vocal opposition.

  31. Great website! Thanks for the recommendation! Why am I moving? Partly found a job. Partly I have a better social life in London. Partly there are more single men in London (I hope!) And I am just happier there. It's a real fresh start for me. Very exciting. And terrifying. Made me laugh. If anyone is interested, I bought these yesterday in Decathlon: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/tichanka-winter-boots-brown-id_8285145.html They are waterproof, warm and very comfortable and have grippy soles. Can't believe they were only £40 and they are leather. And they fit round my chunky calves! Have ordered a second pair. The last pair of boots that I bought that were such a good fit cost 4 times that and I really baulked at having to spend so much! Good old Decathlon!

  32. What a sickening load of dross from a pack of sheep like slaves. Rather than wondering why a few dozen boats don't pay an extra tax (on top of the income tax, fuel duty, VAT et al) your baying would be better aimed at finding out why you are so happy to pay so much for so little. And how you are so happy to accept the lies you are fed on a daily basis. And how you are prepared to prop up, with your money = your efforts, a bloated and corrupt bureaucracy. In the last six years the richest 10% in Britain doubled their wealth. Austerity? Yeah right. Pack of fools the lot of you. Now you can go back to creating your straw men. oh and remind me again, how successful your baying has been at getting tax out of Amazon, Starbucks, Vodafone and Google. That might be a bit more worthwhile than raining your spite on a couple of hundred boaters.

  33. Thank you all. The good news is that two addresses were found in two separate piles at Longford along with my pic of a perp and prosecutions are now in the pipeline. Hoorah!
