  1. What IS your problem? Others may find it a small addition to the thread or not as the case may be. You, on the other hand, have to make some sort of attempted put down comment. No wonder you have over 22,000 posts, 21,900 of them seem to be for some sort of self satisfaction. George ex nb Alton retired

  2. Aw, c'mon people. Not quite vomiting on the CEOs shoes must beat 'not moving' - surely.

  3. Not exactly - it's "within a calendar month" - 28 days doesn't figure, (unless it is February, and not a leap year, of course). From Stoke Bruerne Visitor Moorings Leaflet The "welcome boards" say the same, (or should do, provided they have actually managed to keep them fully updated as they have moved various goal posts). I don't think it is necessarily on the individual "totems" with the "tiles", although it may now be - there have been several attempts to get it right, often without any real consistency!

  4. As you spotted, an engine entirely full of diesel is going to,hydraulic lock. As a first step I took out the heater plugs, span the engine over, put the plugs back and it started. Next, injectors out and sent off for reconditioning. On test, they were hosing badly - delivering fuel below the cracking pressure. These were so poor that they would leak under the pressure head from the tank, filling the cylinder and via the gap in the rings, the rest of the engine So, we fixed it Richard

  5. 1) don't say I didn't see you to a town class steerer when you, A) can't see over the continuous cruising rubbish on your roof coal generators wheel barrow, roof boxes scrap bikes, plants, bits of old car pallets, bits of old wood, dog kennels are on the wrong side C) going like the clappers D) sitting on a stool E) on the phone. 2). If your plants return to nature from their rest rotting the roof of your cottage, because you crash into a tree don't blame me. I know anything on the top of a boat unless strapped down falls in at some point including small furry animals , children, and ultimately yourself, and it's a long way in from top planks , that's why old boats chain down chimneys cans and anything else. 3) if you come flying round a blind bend and hit my bows because you can't stop it's your own fault. Water gets under the boat and strangely you can't stop. We know this you have yet to learn, that's why we creep slowly.. 4) finally. Asking a bloke sitting in the middle of the canal 5 feet out from a lock to move so you can get Into the lock is likely to met by a comment questioning your parentage and sanity. He is clearly happy to be wondering why there is 3 inches of counter out of the water on both sides of his boat, and how now his lock wheeler has steamed off on the bike he is going to reach the next lock. Coming up to his bow as he uses the shaft to swing the boat will result in you loosing windows, and the comment "you can't be stuck I'm floating "may be ignored. You just have to wait, maybe polish the brass, make a phone call or possibly even help... I had fun today ( til it rained on the just painted cabin top) I learned more about humans than a lifetimes work in psychiatry. Maybe more helpful hints tomorrow...

  6. Visit each of the builders, and see at least a couple of boats from each of these builders. GO OUT AND LOOK AT REAL BOATS. Begin to form your opinions, discount the definite "no's," and then ask the rest of the forum to spend a reasonable amount of time offering input and well thought out arguments. You need to do a lot of leg work to get the right boat, something that the forum and internet cannot do for you. And there are literally so many new people that come here every month with the same ideas, questions, wanting experienced members to give their knowledge freely time and time again in place of doing their own groundwork and learning first, that people will stop answering you or being interested in your search sooner or later if you don't do the legwork you need to do first instead of making the theoretical shortlists. /\ Is the paraphrased crux of what RLWP told me back in 2011, and quite rightly too. We are now good friends.

  8. Hi ya, Yep, I've got 5mm ish Acrylic or Polycarbinate sheet clear window covers, that fixes Externally over my windows as 'Storm Boards' whilst out n about, They are also Very Tough, could probably take the impact of a stone, (or Lump Hammer !) , but would rather not put it to the test, They also have the advantage of, in winter they seam to make the boat warmer,They let light in, & you can see out of them !.

  10. I can't speak for carlt, But I read in to it as meaning, there is little difference between say a 70ft boat & say a 40ft boat in terms of actual weight whilst on the water in a canal, you can still push, pull or move the bow or stern with a good shove. I would hope most boats are 'Positive Buoyant' Though. As far as the OPs comments ref clogging up the forum ect, I for one welcome most of the threads you've posted so far,, they are amongst the few that havnt declined into Arguments and personal insults or UN-necessary Name calling by some members. Well done you.

  11. I don't actually agree with this protest personally but what I said was that I support protest and counter protest. It's what we, the plebs have when our political system fails to represent us. It would be hypocritical of me not to support the notion of protest having used this method regularly myself, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. The answer to a protest you don't agree with is a counter protest, which, from what I read wouldn't be hard to win. ^^^^ this is in response to Alan's post, forgot to quote

  12. I know you probably think you know what you want from a boat but I wouldn't waste my money on a brand new boat and fit out until I had at least had 12-18 months living on a used boat with a similar spec and layout. You will probably find what you think you want now is completely different to what you think you need then. You can always sell the boat and buy a new one when you are sure of what you want. Your short list has some nice shell builders by the way.

  13. Sometimes I think people will look for any excuse for a good bit of CRT bashing. You could have started a thread along the lines of how CRT turned out within the hour and sorted out a problem with a lock gate. Fantastic, thank you very much CRT.
