  1. Catch some wood pigeons, tie them to your head and shoulders, shout bang from time to time and you have a lovely cooling flappy feeling

  2. Drill some holes in the base plate, and your boat will be lovely and cool within an hour or so!

  3. You've had plenty of opportunity to put your "proper analysis" where your mouth is but have singularly failed to come up with one so without any coherent challenge those figures are the most authoritative so far. When I challenged Hissy-fit Paul's figure of 90p per kwh for gas it wasn't for your benefit. I already know you're incapable of thinking outside your narrow box. It was for the benefit of the earlier poster who had asked me to explain post #5.

  5. We do the following: 1) ensure direct sun is kept out of the interior via blinds, curtains or shutters. 2) ensure there is as much airflow as possible. 3. Something that hasn't been mentioned yet...to cool the interior, use a fine mist plant sprayer filled with the coldest water you can find. Cools the air down significantly (and dries quickly in hot weather) 4. Run a fan over a tray of (ice) cold water.

  6. I think from reading the article, the caission came off its rails, jamming the boat under the gate. With the seal broken and the boat there they couldn't seal the top pound and thus the water. "for an unknown reason the 'bac' left its rails, the barge found itself thus trapped preventing the closure of the doors" 'bac' I've not heard before, the dictionary says 'tray' so caisson probably (though isn't 'caission' french anyway?)

  7. Looking through many threads there seems to be a lot of hostility between CC's and boaters with permanent moorings. I'm a CC and had a choice like most others. The reason I decided not to have a permanent mooring was very simple. I didn't see the point of being stuck in the same area to justify paying for a mooring. It seems to me that most of the criticism us CC's get is born out of jealousy. "Why should we pay more when you don't". It's not just about money. CC's do more to help people on the canals and sort out problems because we are out there using the canal rather than sitting around doing nothing. Rant over!

  8. And you can not call a boat with a full compliment of matching fenders, a 'dumper'. Some people are such snobs... <As for using that image, the owner of that boat may object to his property being posted here like this, being ridiculed? Or did you seek permission to publish it?>

  10. Whether I accept it or not is irrelevant. You don't seem to be able to recognise that I'm not putting forward my own opinion, I'm speculating on what a judge's opinion might be. I'm suggesting a judge might not agree with your claim that your hard standing is a reasonable place to keep your boat, but I'd be pleased if he did. MtB

  12. I fully understand your point Carl, I am just pointing out that if CRT decide to make an example of you, you're going to have to convince a judge, not me, that keeping your boat on a hard standing is reasonable, and from my experience of judges, they tend to apply common sense. The weakness introduced to your case by choosing to have a hard standing place means you have a chance of losing your case in my personal opinion, whereas if you had a floating mooring, CRT would almost certainly lose. You are beginning to remind me of Paul Davis with you line of reasoning! MtB Not really. You failed to highlight the word REASONABLY! MtB

  13. What is an Idolator??? It sounds like something from a radio 4 quiz show where you have to guess the meaning of words so: 1 A teenage girl who is infatuated with the members of a pop group 2 A lazy husband (idle and doesn't get out of bed till later) (this one from Gilile) 3 Large aerial or radar dish on top of a plastic cruiser to impress onlookers 4 Person who does not believe in an orthodox religion .............Dave
