  1. At the root of this argument is a fundamental disagreement about living on board, isn't it? Some of us, a lot of us, do so because we are passionately committed to boating, to using the waterways for their original purpose of navigation, and the only way we can get enough of it is to live on board. For such people, the CC guidelines are no problem at all; who on earth would want to stay in the same place for a week, never mind fourteen days? Sometimes, force majeure, ill health, ice or whatever, means that you have to stick around for a bit, but I've always found BW perfectly helpful in such circumstances. Others see the cut as a linear trailer park offering the promise of cheapo accommodation. They are wrong because the only way you can keep costs below basic land based accommodation is to cheat and wriggle out of paying some of what you should. But the two groups can never agree – like the two old biddies shouting at each other across the street, leaning out of their bedroom windows, they are arguing from different premises.

  2. The OH operates a similar scheme. She puts a new unique identifying mark on the car every time she goes to the supermarket.

  6. Perhaps if you owned one you'd realise what a load of bollocks you just typed. I took a foster dog in, on Friday, and she has yet to eat, because she is pining for her previous owner, despite being offered every dog food available, chicken, steak and other treats. I'm not sure why it had to be said, actually, considering there are people posting about how upset they are to have recently lost their companion. I wonder what anyone has gained from your wise words.

  7. I was hoping to go, but I don't think I am going to make it. I am going to be doing a two day boating trip instead, but if it is too windy for boating I will head up there. It will be a shame to miss it.. but.....! The weekends just aren't long enough.

  8. So, the OP is asking for "specific statutory protection for boat dwellers from harassment and unlawful eviction". Harassment is illegal under various Acts, including the Protection from Harassment Act, 1997. "Unlawful eviction" is obviously just that. Unlawful. Therefore the OP already has full legal protection he seeks - "equal to that enjoyed by the tenants of houses" - since the Protection from Harassment Act, 1997 makes no references to domicile. So I guess it's OK for Their Lordships to vote in favour of the order, then....

  10. listen mate....do you REALLY think I'm going to use my newly acquired God-power on myself...I'm secretly waiting for someone to post something which I deem to be of such a high standard, that they shall receive an official DeanS greenie (dont waste em folks...lol)

  11. I have never given anyone a greenie, but only because I didnt know how. Oh the pressure....as I contemplate who shall be the recipient of my first greenie....because once you have set your greenie "standard", you have to always stick to that standard from this day forth....else it's unfair to the one you aren't giving a greenie too....and if you run out of greenie power....you have to remember to come back tomorrow and allocate it....but then you may end up never having enough..... I dont know if I'm mentally ready to start allocating greenies. Is there a part of the forum where like minded greeniephobes like myself can discuss this in a calm group environment. I feel that if I share my fears, I may be able to conquer them. I'm terribly pleased the reddie was removed...because giving someone a reddie would have pushed me over the edge.... ETA....I've just read I only get 2 greenies per 24hrs. 2???????????????????? My hands are trembling...If I allocate 1, I'll only have 1 left......

  12. As a comparison, I have had 2 friends who have been "caught" by HMRC after buying and selling 6 cars each, in one year. They were "caught" from adverts that they put in the paper and on E-bay. Both were threatened with prosecution if they did not provide full accounts and payment, if due. I also know of someone who is currently "negotiating" with HMRC about all her (very many) sales of antique and collectable items on E-bay.

  15. I thought it was popularly known that a narrow boat will generally reverse in precisely the way you want it to, provided nobody, absolutely nobody, is watching. Your ability to reverse as intended is in some strange way inversely related to the size of the audience. At a large festival or boat show, the tiller somehow no longer in any way controls what the rudder, and hence the boat will do. This is a fundamental law, and no amount of skill will change it.
