  7. Yes, It rather appears he could have used the wide road bridge on a street that appears to be lit, immediately below the locks.... Or even the footbridges across the locks, which, surprise, surprise, already have barriers. Google Street View Link EDITED TO ADD: There already appears to be a substantial barrier between pub and lock, and you actually have to make your way through quite a small opening to get to the lockside from the pub. Sorry I'm not trying to play down a death, but honestly, are we supposed to put barricades along all canals, and light them all, because someone could try an ill-advised prank anywhere ?

  13. Being the owner of a 1968 Cruiser (Splitter / Noddyboat/Yogurt Pot/etc etc)for the last 8 yrs I have to say we have had to address a couple of Osmosis blisters over the last 2 lift outs - nothing major & easily dealt with (2x 2pence size) Yes we have to antifoul - do you Sewertubers / Narrowboaters not have to lift out & black then ???? I wonder what a unblacked hull looks like after 43 yrs ! Ok - Lets not do the GRP vs Narrowboat war - I have relived most of the cruising of my youth (Aboard either a 22ft Wooden Dawncraft or NB) in our cruiser , its been great ! Yes we've been abused by some NB's but most have been great - We have had similar treatment when borrowing dads NB & cruising the Tidal Trent & Thames from some cruiser owners lol ! A Narrowbeam cruiser offers the same cruising area as a Sewertube (Ok we cant do Standedge tunnel - Believe me I've tried every edge with BW - Videos. ELectric power , & many more beggings!) but apart from that a cruiser works as well on the cut & better on the rivers. Only downside is space on a narrowbeam cruiser & maybe some facilities. Whatever you own - Enjoy the waterways - Its Brilliant !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. "Nina Posted Today, 05:54 PM When we went out cruising last summer, we made the error of going out at the height of the school holidays. It was a simple case of not having any other time to go due to work commitments. The one thing that struck me though was the lack of supervision of children especially around locks. We saw quite small children being sent to operate the paddles many of which were very stiff and quite dangerous when they slipped back down at some speed down once released. I remember thinking it's only going to be a matter of time before a child is injured or drowned. As boating has become a more popular family holiday option, I feel more safety rules need to be applied simply because you can't rely on some parents to see or think about the obvious. To a regular, seasoned boat owner, the safety precautions are obvious and don't need spelling out but to others, it does need a loudhaler unfortunately. I really wouldn't want to read about a child being hurt when with a few big hints posted on a sign and maybe some new safety precautions it could be avoided." I wonder if one of those you saw was my Olivia(now 12) and her friends who join her on board, she has done locks for me Summer and Winter for the last 4 years, gives me a signal if it's too difficult and needs a hand. Oh, and she also steers the boat occasionally. I will have a word and tell her to stay indoors next time she comes on board. She can stick to her I-Pod like wot kids r supposed to do nowadays.

  18. Although i agree about no need for more barriers im unimpressed with the terminally stupid/foolish remark. As one who remembers doing silly things when young and also having 2 youngsters who do not always behave sensibly i feel a little understanding may be called for. Ian

  21. It looks like some folk bottle their feelings up too much and then suddenly let fly. As Roxey said a lot of folk on here need more to do in life as some folk seem to be on here almost 24/7.i Know that a good proportion of members are retired but even so i find it quite extraordinary.

  24. If you knew the slightest thing about what you were looking at you would see the evidence , in the first picture of the already deteriorating bits, camouflaged by paint and filler, that I exposed, with a view to working on it, before personal circumstances forced me to look for a new owner. Lucy was knackered long before Andy covered her faults up and many of those faults were addressed, when I took a boat that was on an embankment, with a permanent siphon pipe going down the bank, barely keeping her afloat, and fixed her up enough to get legal and be safe to go continuosly cruising. I'm sorry I didn't pander to ignorant oafs like you, and put some paint on her cabin, but I thought below the waterline was more important than what she looked like above. You have come out with crap like this before Evo and it was moronic trolling then, just like it is now. You are either mischief making or are too thick to recall the discussion we had last time.
