New: Best Answer

This announcement is no longer active

RichM

You may have noticed that the Technical & Account Support forum now sports a "Best Answer" feature.  We are currently trialing this in this forum only

Why?

It can be used to highlight the solution to a problem/question asked by the OP. Thus, it means subsequent users reading the topic at a later date (perhaps even months or years later) may not necessarily need to trawl through a series of troubleshooting steps to find the answer to the problem/question.

It also enables the site staff to keep better track of topics that have been answered with a solution vs. those which haven't. - With a view to prevent topics being missed without a solution being provided.

How can I use it?

If you wish to make use of it by contributing to it, you may click the up arrow for any posts which you consider to be the best answer. If this is not done by the community, the Site Staff will "mark up" a topic when they consider it to be answered with an appropriate solution. Of course, members can still continue to post and contribute to the topic thereafter and the "Best Answer" can always be changed should it be deemed appropriate.

Please note that it does not form part of a reputation system of any sort, nor does it award reward points. It is merely intended to highlight the solutions to a given problem.

Will it be used for other forums?

There's currently no plans to use it within other forums here at Canal World.

OK, but some topics may not actually need a "Best Answer" and may be based around a subjective matter

That's OK. In those cases, a best answer will not be chosen given that it may not be applicable or relevant in those cases.

What if I don't like it?

Members are not obliged to use it and may simply ignore it should they wish. We also welcome any constructive feedback.
