So my boat had diesel bug, I guess I made the mistake of not having it totally full all the time. Problem is I don’t cruise that much, only a short days cruise every couple of weeks so keeping the tank entirely full means the diesel could sit there for a very long time and my understanding is that diesel has a shelf life so maybe not ideal. So I can get someone out to polish the diesel, clean the tank and refill but it’ll probably be a B.O.A.T (bring out another thousand) situation. And diesel is heckin expensive these days. I was thinking can I just pop a 20L metal jerry can in the engine bay, hook up my lines to that and then just use that? Ignore the integral tank altogether. Anything in the BSS that might be a problem there? 20L at 1.5L an hour is 13 hours cruising and I always have 2 other jerry cans on board for the refleks anyway in a pinch. I could keep an extra one for backup. Then in the very unlikely event my new 20L fuel tank gets diesel bug I can just put a new one in for £20 Is this a stupid idea? At least until I have more disposable funds to properly sort the problem!
