Hello you helpful boaters.

I have a couple of issues with a newly bought project boat. I need help identifying some bits and tracking down spares.

Firstly, one of the glass windows on my stove has broken

I have no idea what the stove is, and all of the previous paperwork states it is 'unknown' manufacturer.

I need a replacement glass as well as fire rope and fixing cement. Does anyone know a supplier who will either stock glass of a similar size, or make them to order? I can take measurements of the glass.

Secondly, the screw fitting for my toilet pump out has been lost, again with no record of manufacturer or model (let alone thread measurements). I have taken photos of the fitting, and of the key for the cap with a brand logo on. Can anyone help identify this?

Hi your stove is a villager. Made in devon.

It looks like it could be the older version of the chelsea duo? You could buy a new one on ebay pretty cheap?

You could ask on here. Arada own villager and aarrow etc.

http://www.aarrowfires.com/forum/

http://www.villager.co.uk/stoves/multifuel-stoves.html

From the looks of it it needs new glass/seals, new stove flue outlet collar as it's a made up job, respraying and all new door rope seals. A full respray with stove paint would make it look new after wire brushing etc.

There are many parts suppliers online.

One is.

The blue key you have pictured is just a generic type sold widely for use on all kinds of water, diesel & pump-out fittings.

It will not be specific to your lost cap.

Mr. Standard, I do remember you looking for a "budget" boat a few months ago and seeking advice on here. But I don't remember you buying one. What sort have you bought?

Can I suggest you ask other boaters local to you if you can borrow their cap to try it for size (be extremely careful when screwing it in so as not to cross the threads. I suspect a lot are fairly interchangeable? If you find one that fits you can measure the diameter and threads so you know what you need

There do seem to be at least two types of these pump-out sockets. Ours has a smaller thread and shallower pocket than the more modern ones

I suspect that even if you can identify the missing cap size, you won't be able to buy one separately.

Mind you, the sockets are not ridiculously expensive

I have indeed!

I got a 57ft 1990 Liverpool Boat Co. cruiser stern from a very nice lady in Tewkesbury who was selling following the death of her father (who bought it as a project but never finished it).

It's a lovely boat, but quite a few bits of information are in the head of the father who is no longer with us!

Splendid! I suppose if he carried the entire wiring diagram in his head, you'll need to hire either an expert sparks or a medium to get it sorted. Good luck with it, and enjoy it.

My local chandler phoned Aquafax, who do sell them seperately. I'd rather not shell out and waste a perfectly workable part unless I have to.

The combination for the combination lock was also in his head, which meant I had to hacksaw free my own boat!

Really looking forward to the challenge!

Very good idea! Will try this.

That's great! I will follow those up.

I plan on doing all of the above restoration jobs, although I didn't know that respraying was the best way to repaint. What kind of a respray do you mean?

So they do. £9.57 +VAT for a brass one, £3.57 +VAT for a plastic one

£22.50 including VAT for a brass socket and cap from Midland Chandlers

I can't see any variations in size between those, so you may as well buy a plastic cap and hope it fits

For the stove paint buy the one that comes in an aerosol. They are available in most Diy shops and generally heatproof up to 650 degrees. They generally say for barbeque/ stove with a picture.

I think I bought some in B&Q ebay etc.

Hotspot and calfire is a good make.

http://www.hotspotonline.co.uk/

http://www.calfire.com/ I used calfire and it was very nice paint.

Dont use the black lead polish on a steel stove, it stinks and doesn't last long. Works ok an a cast iron stove. I prefer to spray paint.

I think those pump out caps are standard BSP thread so if you carefully measure the diameter a cast tapered thread blanking pipe end stop fitting should be available at a plumbers merchant for a couple of quid.

I'm 'half' sure I have seen caps for sales in chandlers.

Midland Chandlers sell a good range of spare caps. They were the only place to carry my diesel cap when it went the way of such things.

The Calfire paint looks great and there is a UK stockist who seem to stock a good range of colours. I was simply going to stick to black, but the Russet is rather appealing too!

Will 400ml easily cover the entire stove? None of the websites give an idea of coverage to expect from a can.

Great, I think I will be passing them in the near future so will check out what they have.

Believe there's a standard size now. But if the boat is old it may have the larger size...

Yes they are - I bought a 1.5" BSP male fitting and that fits the pumpout hole perfectly.

The £3.50 plastic one will have the advantage of taking the standard 'hex' key to open it where as a black iron blanking plug from the plumbers/engineers supplies may need a spanner or have non standard square hole but could be a bit cheaper as bizzard says

The different colours are nice.

From this place that sells this paint you will need two cans.
