Old news Alan, but never mind the hygiene (and Jeff says that too much cleanliness is behind the proliferation of childhood leukaemia) the food is pretty mediocre. A great pub for a beer or three but we always eat on the boat when moored there. Jeff really doesn't want to eat there even though it is then he who has to cook the dinner!

The school I work at has 5 stars! So according to Jeff there's no hope for any of the kids there! At least they won't die of food poisoning!

No serious breaches, new chef implementing more rigorous controls and if all the staff fill in numerous compliance tick boxes daily, it will probably get 3 or 4 next time.

I think I prefer food poisoning (from which one rarely dies) to leukaemia. But anyway, so long as they drop their food on the floor and then pick it up and eat it from time to time, they should be fine. Jeff (who by the way is a haematology clinical nurse specialist) 's biggest bugbear is the proliferation of antibacterial household cleaners.

What is his evidence to connect the proliferation of ant-bac cleansing products to childhood leukemia??

Not sure but I'm sure it could be found on t'internet. But it's common sense once you know that resistance to cancer is determined by the strength of one's immune system (b-lymphocytes to identify and t-lymphocytes to destroy rogue cancerous cells). And as I'm sure you know, a good immune system is built from exposure to pathogens.

I think some of the studies related to middle class (everything clean) vs working class (living in the gutter) (totally non-PC and generalisations so don't bother to pick me up on that one).

And also to those kids going to nursery school (lots of snot-sharing) vs an isolated life at home.

Like some others it used to be a 'destination pub' for us many years ago. Now I have to say we would rarely stop there by choice

Thank god for nick and Jeff..

Let's just stop buying anti bac hand wash and we have found the cause of cancer in kids.

Nick has a point in that you need some exposure to bad bacteria etc to build up your resistance . Isn't he principle behind the flu jab.

I'm not sure if you are funning or being seriously sarcastic. But it is a serious and very tragic subject so I do hope you are just funning. Your point is a misinterpretation of what I said, which was that the proliferation of anti-bac in domestic circumstances is one factor in the increasing incidences of childhood leukaemia and NHL. These conditions were present before anti-bac became commonplace in many homes, but are more common now. I am not, for example, decrying the use of anti-bac in hospitals because they help prevent the spread of hospital nasties - clearly a good thing. But children need to be exposed to a bit of dirt.

Childhood cancers and NHL I believe (although I only get my knowledge from proof reading Jeff's work for his degree and MSc!). But I'm sure it's out there on the internet.

Of course it is serious...I don't 'fun' about such stuff..

Proof reading does not qualify you in the qualification of the persons work you are proof reading...

Of course its possible to find dodgy stuff on the internet, just Google MMR

Whilst I'm at it, the anti-bac type sterile household is also responsible in part for the increase in asthma. Although it almost sounds like the opposite point, an immune system that is not challenged can tend to get bored and turn on its host.

Is it...sounds logical yes...

But again ... What evidence?

I'm sure if you asked an immunologist they would be able to point you to it, but as a mere non-medical mortal I can't do that for you, without spending the time trawling the internet that you could do for yourself!

Normally research papers with any real authenticity or validity are not available to Jo public..

Ask Jeff, he should know.

Yes that can be true, but of course some key ones make it into the public domain, as do many in the form of their abstract. Anyway, as a starting point for your research you could look here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hygiene_hypothesis

Obviously not an academically rigorous source but at least it shows I am not making it up!

However there are some relevant references.

Anyway, as a psyche nurse you probably think it's all in the mind!
