DC input voltage for LED tv

KJT

Featured Posts

Just a quick query before I do something stupid.

I have just purchased an LED tv for my boat and wish to run it from my 12v DC system

The input voltage of 19.5v DC is supplied by a mains voltage unit supplied with the TV. The power consumption of the TV is around 35w.

I have a 12v power supply with various selectable output voltages which would seem to do the job but the nearest voltage which can be selected is either 19v or 20v. Would either of those make a difference? 19.5v seems very precise. I don't wish to damage the TV the first time I plug it in.

Thanks

Ken

Could you test the output voltage of the AD adaptor? My uninformed gut feeling is that the TV will work on either 19 or 20v and I also wonder how precisely the 12 v adaptor will regulate the output when subjected to various battery voltages.

I have a Samsung Smart 22" TV which has a 240v mains adapter outputting 14V. When I first got the TV I was only able to feed it with a regulated 12V supply, so I gave it a go with fingers crossed. It worked fine, and that's how I ran it for about a year.

Eventually, I found a variable output adapter with the right sized connector for the TV, but the closest voltage was 15V. That's what I set it to, plugged in, and all has been fine for 5 years.

Personally, I don't think your TV will be worried about half a volt either way, but there will be a small element of fingers crossed when you plug in for the first time.
