The Far Canal

Featured Posts

Last night we went to an open mic at the Far Canal, a pub in Wrantage. The canal is the Chard Canal, which once crossed over the road on an aqueduct. The canal closed over 150 years ago but one abutment of the aqueduct still stands, see the middle ground of the photo.

This pub wasn't always called the Far Canal, I'm sure I went in there 20+ years ago and it had a different, canal related name and sign. Anyone know?

It's not far from Crimson Hill Tunnel, so I'll be going back in the daytime.

Good stuff! And confirms that the pub was once the Canal Inn

Back in 1973 I used to play drums in a band, and we called ourselves Far Canal.

We thought it insanely funny, :) bless

I'm surprised it works without a Somerset accent!
