Mooring in Leicester Centre?

Featured Posts

There are two places with secure moorings in Leicester, Castle Gardens pontoon just south of King Richards bridge, and just past King Richards bridge, a new pontoon has just been opened in last twelve months with water and electric.

Castle gardens takes 3 or 4 boats, the new pontoon about 5.

The Leicester Riverside Festival is the first weekend in june and will be very busy, pontoons may need to be booked - and the weekends either side may see boats dumped there because the boats cant be moved during the week by festival attendees.

I used the new pontoon above the bridge at Friars Mill last month. The electric points weren't powered but the water points were fine.  It's a bit noisy during the day due to construction work on the site but quiet in the evening and weekends.

your CRT /BW Watermate key unlocks the gates of the Castle Gardens moorings into the park. The park is locked by the council at dusk. There is one gate that you can access the park by, again using your BW key. (This means you have the run of the park at night, I had a bbq and the kids played hide and seek).

The Friars Mill pontoon instructions for access are near the gate.

Hello

The Castle moorings are great, very secure. Not used the newer ones but a passing boater said they were OK but not as secure.

We will be heading that way in a few days time, currently moored at Sawley Cut, so looking for a fellow boater to cruise in company through the locks to Loughborough/Leicester.

Have the Castle moorings got water now?

I would say the new moorings are every bit as secure -- at least they were last September when we were there.  The whole development is behind a locked gate.  There's also the advantage of water, a rubbish bin, and plenty of sunshine for the solar panel.
