Signs Of Spring 2017

The 'Autherley Armada' has ventured forth, together with the 'Yellow Perils' from Gailey. Surely spring. Lifted the deckboards today to find a mouse nest in the engine compartment. Busy little devil was not there on Tuesday, but this is more of a harbinger of Autumn, but it was cold last night.

Came back to our boat one year to find a duck's nest on the bow deck. Didn't have the heart to disturb them so waited until the ducklings fledged before taking our first trip out.

Very wise. The Wildlife and Countryside Act makes it a criminal offence to disturb wild bird nests containing eggs or chicks for most of us.

Well, we wouldn't have disturbed the nest as such, just taken it on a little cruise ;)

We spent the last few weeks in west London the signs of Spring we noticed were more boats moving and lock gates constantly left open by inconsiderate London boat dwellers. I know a few locks on the GU state to leave empty or bottom gates open but we have noticed that they seem to be left open more often than closed now that boats are moving again.

last week as we were leaving a lock we saw a boat aproaching so left the gate open for them, as we passed them I said "you timed that well" they replied, "thanks, we left the next one open for you". The next lock was a mile away

So glad we are heading away from London now
