12V Portable Oil pump at Lidl

Featured Posts

I have one, bought a couple of years ago. It is very slow, certainly wouldn't want to wait whilst it took 9 litres of oil out of my engine.

It came in very handy when I couldn't get the gearbox drain plug out. Still took about 15 minutes to drain almost 1.5 litres out though.

They are 5 minutes per litre of 'warm' (under 60 degrees) oil.

Max run time 30 minutes, leave to stand 10 minutes and then can use for another 30 minutes.

You can set it up and leave it, go and do something else, return after 30 minutes, switch it off, have a cup-of-tea, turn it back on and carry on with your 'jobs'.

What else are you going to do anyway ?

I can empty the oil in under ten minutes with the hand pump on my Beta 43.

The gearbox can be drained using gravity alone, even though it is such a weak force.

As I get older I find gravity to be getting stronger and stronger, especially near to steep hills. Can you drain your gearbox at the bottom of a flight of locks?

And can also be used to extract water from cooling systems, heating systems and flooded bilges,  unlike the Aldi's one, which uses the oil it is pumping to lubricate the pump.

My goodness, that's an impressively long link.  The forum used to compress things like that - doesn't it do that any more?

I had one of those. Mine was not very robust and after a few uses I chucked it. In any case to change the 15-20 litres of of oil in the engine requires filling and decanting the vacuum tank several times.

I Understand the PELA pumps are better but a large one seems to be approx £90?

Its easier to use the installed hand pump straight into an empty 25l container so that it can be taken off the boat and disposed of in one go. This takes approx 10 minutes so is an electric pump worthwhile?

Probably not for you, but not every engine has a hand pump installed.
