Zosima
Sorry if this isn't in the right place. Does anyone know if Canal Shop Online (http://www.canalshoponline.co.uk/) has ceased trading or are scamsters or anything like that? I placed an order on March 3rd and the payment went through (according to the Paypal email I received). The item hasn't arrived and the phone number provided on the Canal Shop Online email confirmation is inactive. Moreover, the phone number provided on the Paypal email is that of Whilton Marina (themselves hardly well regarded, as I'm aware). Whilton deny all involvement, saying this happens a lot, and Canal Shop Online falsely provides their phone number. They also said that Canal Shop Online was set up by a former employee who is a fraudster. Just wondering if anyone has any prior experience with them, before I decide what to do next...? Keeping Up
Certainly Richard who runs it is not a fraudster! He is (or was) a member of this forum. He used to run the shop from Whilton Marina, but IIRC they moved him out because they wanted to run their own chandlery from the site. Relics of the old location, such as the old phone number, probably lurk in all sorts of places and could appear on computer screens for all sorts of reasons. He then moved to Hillmorton near Rugby, and I have bought many things from him in the past. What number are you using? The number I have for him is 01788 542169 I will be saddened to hear if he has stopped trading.
Tony Brooks
I called there on Monday to try to get parts but they seem to have gone. They used to be a Whilton but it was some years ago and as I understand it was alleged that it was the landlords who acted in a less than ethical way so I would not take overmuch notice of them being a fraudster. (A search on here may throw up a thread about it). I think the owner is a member here and in specialises in composting toilets. He may be operating from a different address and I have always found him straightforward.

Fortunately it seems like we got away with it (although her engine did fail literally on her way out of the marina...) So I was prepared to take their words with a pinch of salt. matty40s
I think they have reconverted the shop back into a 2nd dock for hire and moved the shop to the portakabin across the drive (nearer the pub). Richards boat was there last Monday and there were people in and out. I know he was snowed under with the composting loo business as golf clubs and similar are installing at a pace. No excuse for taking money and not responding though. Try this number instead - 01327 844442, works for me.

matty40s
out on the 9th when the crustys get desperate, peeing or crapping in the manicured bushes is no longer allowed. Here's Richards profile, still selling in February.. http://canalworld.net/forums/index.php?/profile/1012-canal-shop-man/ Edited March 21, 2017 by matty40s

alan_fincher
We boated past the Hillmorton base last week, and it did appear that the shop was no longer where it was, but Matty is probably right that they have relocated it. It looked "quiet" but not actually "closed", and there are still boats there that I would expect to be there. How large a transaction is involved, please? Not huge - about forty quid, but the problem is more that we lost a couple of fenders in the storm (the crappy plastic hooks snapped off) and a koolie hat, and we needed replacements pronto, hence placing an 'urgent order'. Of course, we may as well have driven to a chandlers the following weekend given what's transpired... Would still like either the goods or the money back, though! stegra
If you paid through PayPal as a purchase (not a gift), you can raise it with them. It's almost unheard of for them not to side with the buyer. Vendor will need to prove delivery to avoid a full refund.
Debby B
I have a similar problem, and have used the 01327 no, which gets you Eco toilets. The lady took a message for Richard, as he was out at an exhibition. I will give him 24 hours to get back to me....
Debby B
Hi, got an answerphone message Monday morning, very apologetic with reason for delay. Posted my items first class and they have arrived this morning. Glad that it's now sorted. Thanks to Matty40s for the new phone number.
Zosima
Update - I spoke to Suzanne at Eco Toilets and she apologised and had the items sent through. They'd had some problems and I think they're closing the Canal Shop Online. I've got everything I ordered plus a partial refund as a goodwill gesture. No harm done! MHS
A real shame if the chandlery (as well as the online shop) has closed. It was very well stocked and with helpful advice, was better than many chandlers. We enjoyed spending time and money there.
tomsk
Is this the chap who evangelises over composting toilets? I was going to ask him his views on installation of same on a fully compliant continuously cruising live-aboard as I cant see how the solids can possibly fully compost within reasonable timescales without some sort of on-board compost heap.
