Update from BCNS:

Further to above message from CRT this has now arrived from them - I would like to confirm that we are in constant dialogue with Network Rail and its Contractors regarding the above-mentioned works.

As stated below, we are due to meet with Network Rail on Thursday (16/02/2017) to review their proposed programme of repairs with our goal being to secure the opening of the Canal to navigation as soon as possible, and will strongly resist Network Rails request to extend the stoppage until the end of May.

I will give you a further update on Friday following the meeting with Network Rail.

Notice now updated to say it should be open by 28th Feb. What's going on?

Its "third party works" - the railway is being electrified, and maintenance of the aqueduct is being carried out at the same time by railway contractors, so out of CaRT control to a large extent. Presumably CaRT have rejected railtrack/carillon's request for extension to May and are "hoping" to meet the February deadline

Rather like Pinfold Bridge and Wolverhampton City Council.

In both cases work started weeks after the published date.

Definitely open, came through yesterday, but narrow channel as pontoons moored either side. Very large obstruction under water just past the footbridge, causing us to list badly. Mayhem inside the boat. Have reported it to CRT so hopefully clear for the Challenge.
