umpire111
currently have carpet down in the NB but as there is now a dog so thinking of changing to a wood type flooring. We have been recommended Karndean which is a strong vinyl type but this seems expensive at £50 per metre fitted. They have to put ply down first. Can anyone recommend any alternative or any views re Karndean, is it slippery when wet, clean easily, durable?http://www.karndean.com/en-gb/floors/look/wood
Boat&Bikes
That's the flooring our boat has. Very hard wearing, not particularly slippy and looks good, I think. Hadn't realised that it was that expensive. Ian. Edited February 5, 2017 by ianali
Northernboater
You can have a look at Rhino Vinyl Flooring, cheaper then Karndean and soft to walk on. Edited February 5, 2017 by Northernboater
Tonka
Why don't you lay it yourself. Last year we laid Karndean Looselay on the already existing ply. No problem with the dog. If you go on there website you can get free samples
Chewbacka
I used bamboo laid straight onto the 19mm sub plyfloor. Looks good but is a bit cold to walk on in bare feet in winter and is a bit soft so dents easily. But on balance I would use it again.

Phil.
We have karndean. Very hard wearing, large labradoodle has not marked it in three years living aboard. With a dog stay away from real wood, it will mark.

sueb
Carpet is cheap and can be replaces regularly. It's nicer for a dog to lie on, they won't slip with wet feet and it's warmer for you.
Naughty Cal
Carpet is cheap and can be replaces regularly. It's nicer for a dog to lie on, they won't slip with wet feet and it's warmer for you. It's also a pain in the arse to keep clean on a boat. We had cream carpets in the cabin which were a nightmare to keep clean. We have swapped to a darker brown carpet but it still gets dirty really quickly. Ideally we would like karndean or similar flooring but the shape of the floor area would make this very awkward.
jddevel
Suggest you have a look at the Howdens range. Easy to lay and rather interestingly easily liftedif need be. Have used it quite extensively in properties I`ve built/renovated. You are supposed to be "in the trade" -which I am- but branches often seem to use a "blind eye" or perhaps you have a contact
widebeamboy
Ive got Polyfloor Camaro loc. It wasn't that cheap however it is easy to fit (lays like click lock laminate and can be cut with a good Stanley knife) and pretty robust. We have two greyhounds who often run up and down the corridor and no signs of scratches or marks. http://www.polyflor.com/jh/products.nsf/products!open&family=lux&prodcode=CamaroLocPU

Jrtm
We use carpet thats in squares and can be lifted up dad has the same he has a dog been fine, just get a hover with a spinning brush takes all the hairs out as there sqares we cab both replace a patch very easly and we just have a rug by doors. Even use it in engine room. The floor is a thin rubber underneath and thin pile on top is not the not comfortable carpet but very hard wearing but warmer than wood and keeps the cold in hhe under floor so cabin stays a little warmer Edited February 7, 2017 by billybobbooth
cuthound
Both our shareboats used Flotex carpet tiles. Expensive and all but indestructible. If one gets damaged, just move it to where it can be seen. Our current boat has a cherry wood floor, which is quite soft. To protect it we bought these from Dunelm Mills. They fit nicely in the corridor sections. http://www.dunelm.com/product/marvel-mat-linen-washable-runner-1000072393
Bugbugs
I bought a whole bunch of mixed sheets from http://www.advancedtechnicalpanels.co.uk/products/buffalo-board-birch-plywood, they did a nice buffalo board that was only a few cm thick. It has the same properties as you'd find in a trailer or lorry bed, has been amazing stuff in my boat for more than a year .I cc the system with winter mud and summer rain, the stuff is still as good as new and easy to mop and still slip proof! Highly recommend! Edited February 15, 2017 by Bugbugs
