Waterways Ireland have indicated that they plan to replace the existing grassy surface with mix of surfaces types including bound hard surface, an unbound mix of stones and crushed limestone (currently in place north of the bridge in Tinnahinch) and reinforced grass (grass sown through a plastic mesh)

I gather that this is a towpath extensively used by ramblers and cyclists. A more hard-wearing surface, less prone to becoming a sea of mud in wet weather (I believe that it does sometimes rain in Ireland) sound like a good idea. Why do you see it as a problem?
