I thought Mike was joking about the water vole until the dear little thing made its appearance towards the end.

Mechanical breakdown, boat stuck under bridge, recalcitrant mechanism - those chaps certainly earned their pub grub.

 

Perhaps in the next episode they will catch the Santa Special train from Wansford station and be given a mince pie by a chap with a big beard and silly clothes (or "boater", as they are known).
