adrianh
Dowty type washers come in different formats and thicknesses. If you are using one on a plain bolt you need the self centring type, these have an internal rubber thin ring to centre the sealing edge, a standard dowty washer requires a small taper on the fitting to centre the washer and keep it away from the end of the thread. The thin ranges are mostly made for bolts and can be difficult to source. Copper washers are a better bet and can be purchased from car or agricultural spares suppliers, you just need to know the bolt/pipe fitting diameter - they tend to be a bit larger in the bore than the specified size. Always anneal them to make them soft so they seal easily ( Heat to red and water quench works fine for copper) If you are stuck I have various small sizes and also copper to produce one from - PM me. Mikexx
It won't! Re annealing copper, don't quench. Allow to cool naturally. In the case of annealing copper it can be cooled naturally or quenched. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annealing_(metallurgy)
