GU Canal/Railway Crossing

This is where the Met Line goes over a canal - it must be near Ricky? I'm guessing near Lot Mead Lock 80. However there is no bridge there near the lock - not sure the film is showing a bridge as it's poor quality.

1910 film around 1.26 in.

That's looking South towards 'Walker's' lock. The expanse of water before the canal are the pits around Thurlows lake, then the River Gade is seen, and the railway seen alongside has long gone, now 'Ebury Way' on the map:

Hardly recognisable with all the arboreal growth today.

Ok Ta got it. Yes Lock 80 the lock cottage is visible. The far distant bridge is now just a footpath over the canal beyond Lock 80 (Walkers). Some real change there. wink.png

Minor detail but the the lake is "Tolpits Lake" used to be a trout lake but not any more. Thurlows Pit IIRC was only excavated in late 20th C.

Hi M,

Excellent film - track electrified out to Harrow? - brought back lots of memories of commuting, and for my wife, born and brought up in Pinner/North Harrow.

How times have changed - and will change with HS2.

Thanks, hope all well.

I used to live in Pinner too. Most of my commute was into the smoke. Still my favourite railway. What was the little station do you reckon? Moor Park?

I wondered what the north curve was after puzzling over it when walking the woods round there recently.

There were sidings there opposite common moor. All overground with buddleia now (or have they been reopened ?) I haven't been there for a few years.

There is a rumour this is where the train from the moorgate disaster is buried.

Hi,

I have travelled in from Wendover, Missenden, Amersham and now Chesham for as long as I can remember, lovely way to travel into London.

The station could be Moor Park - all trains seem to have to stop here, covenant imposed due to cutting through an estate? or to do with the development of big houses nearby (multi-million pound jobbies).

Always looked forward to the crossings of the Rivers and canal by Ricky, and the WW3 gun emplacements.

The second video features the new trains - brill.

How does the Jag cope with the muddy slope on your mooring?.......

Mike
