ValandPete
We use Antenna Aligner, always seems to work. Recommended by someone on the Forum a while ago. Val
sharpness
www.wolfbane.net is the one I have used in the past but usually I have a look on nearby houses. You need to get the horizontal / vertical right as well as the direction. Steve

Exturnaroundman
A pair of binoculars can be handy for aerial spotting in rural areas.
MtB
is there a simple app that can tell me from my location with just the use of a compass which way to point my TV aerial Surely that depends what signal are you trying to receive.... Or is that the point? You want an app to tell you what signals are available? (No telly on my boat, can you tell?!)
Tony Brooks
I use http://www.macfh.co.uk/JavaJive/AudioVisualTV/TerrestrialTV/TerrestrialCalculator.php Put in place name, zoom the map to show canal details. Move the receiver end of the line to boat's position (that may allow the line to move to another transmitter), check the text fro polarisation (horizontal or vertical), set aerial. It also lists other transmitters and their distance from the location so if the recommended signal is poor you can check the topography on the OS map option and can sometimes find a better signal. It offers OS or Google maps.
Dave_P
I faffed around with these for ages, with limited success. Then I bought an omni directional aerial. Sorted.
cuthound
I faffed around with these for ages, with limited success. Then I bought an omni directional aerial. Sorted. That's what we do. On the rare occasions when we can't get a watchable signal we watch dvd's or read books.
Keeping Up
I use Freepoint UK. Sometimes though it doesn't work in the depths of nowhere because it's postcode based Edited October 11, 2016 by Keeping Up
Tony Brooks
That's the advantage of the one I posted. You can use OS coordinates, place names, or post codes (I think).
