I've seen a hell of a lot worse. You'd need a boat to get along many parts of the Shroppie towpath even in mid-Summer.

Looks perfectly walkable to me...:and might slow cyclists and mad runners down a bit.....would rather CRT spent money on the cut than towpath

The road along our mooring was a darn sight worse until it was re surfaced in 2014.

That looks like the evil towpath surface that consists of fine clay powder, when its wet sticks to everything like glue. Biking on it is horrific.

TBH any decent mountain bike with suspension would readily iron those lumps and bumps out..

Absolutely. It'll slow them down though!

 

There's been places where I've been worried about stepping off the boat in case I get mowed down.

 

I've cycled as well but always treated the towpaths as shared space.

It's in better shape than the path round our marina. Even the women wear rigger boots.

Towpaths down that way are luxurious compared to many others around the country.

Bath 72 hour moorings just above the railway line. If the OP does not like this, they won't enjoy their journey along the rest of the Kennet & Avon canal.
