Trent & Mersey Lock 29 closed

Does anybody have a time frame when this lock will be re-opened. We have friends stuck above it.

Thanks in advance.

Not very quickly, I fear. Posts on the Braidbar Owners forum from folk trapped above on their way back from the recent Owners Weekend at Poynton suggest as much as a week. One boat was turned back at Etruria Top and has started to make their way back to Crick the long way round.

According to Darren (didn't get his surname) the CRT bod, they are starting work on Saturday, hopefully open for Monday.

This is not set in stone,* though.

*ETA Actually, it is.

Further info from a Braidbar owner is that inspection by camera shows that there may be a problem with the lock floor itself as well as the identified hole in the upper fore bay. They've had to bring a workboat up to put the bottom stop planks in under the bridge. The plan is to fully dewater the lock today to make a full assessment; work will continue over the weekend.

Another owner reports that Heritage have had to taxi back a family of hirers from south of the stoppage. That family had been told Weds/Thurs for reopening. That can only be a guesstimate until the lock is dewatered.
