Bletchley, now sign written ought to be there by now. Hurried passed us yesterday, nearly knocked us for six, secure mooring ropes! and they left the top gate of lock 8 open.

Martyn

seems an apology is not enough these days. Just had the owner of Bletchly knock on the boat to have a word. I only wrote what I experienced on the day. He was annoyed that I had written on here my account of what I saw.

I did apologise on the day when Junior put me right.

My boat was knocked against the side as the water was low and the ropes slack, the spring helped. The top gate was in the process of reopening, and after many years of boating I do realise this happens.

Can't say anymore than to once again say sorry if I've been detrimental to the working boats of the nation. I do support whenever I can, in fact, as pointed out to me just now, I purchased diesel from his son the other day on Southern ?

Hi

Braunston Rally Newbie here. We are turning up on Friday from Napton direction and have just about enough original rivets to have booked into the rally! Can anybody tell me how moorings are allocated; are there normally mooring people around to direct boats on arrival or is it 'first come first served'.

Where exactly are the rally moorings? I am not intending to go in the parades, so would like to be facing north for a lunchtime exit on Sunday, is it possible to go through the marina and turn left or should I attempt to wind below the locks (48 feet would make this feasible I think)

Any advice much appreciated and hope to meet some of you over the weekend

Cheers

Richard

"Mission Control" is normally by the entrance to the Marina. Speak to someone in a high viz jacket and they'll sort you out.

Friday night will be fine. As for Saturday morning the parade winds at the turn by going up one side of the triangle towards Napton, reversing down the second side then forwards again towards the marina. Outside of the parade times you'll be fine but I can't remember if they have someone to wave you through if the parade is on.

Yes, there will be a steward or two at the turn to help traffic flow.

Huh! -Elitist FMC types this year again, then!

To be honest, we'd much rather be out on the towpath. At the moment we're feeling rather isolated. There are only three other boats in the arm and all the socialising is taking place outside.

By the way, it's not only FMC boats this year in the elite spot since Phobos and Battersea are also there to take part in the Sonia Rolt commemoration ceremony.

I was amused that David Daines told me the other night he deliberately picks that spot just beyond the Ladder Bridge, as the best entertainment comes from the foul ups that people manage to make doing the 180 back on to the main canal!

I am all on my own too with a pisstaking Springer that was trying its best to stealthily sink on me earlier! :D

We're going to come watch! Not with Baseplate, obviously, as it's not a historic boat, but hopefully to get some good photos. smile.png

Without sounding too ignorant, where is the best place for us to watch from?

Either the bridge over the entrance to the marina or at the Oxford / GU junction.

Both "Flamingo" and "Sickle" are now here.

(Achieving that has required a bit of creative thinking, but we have!)

"Flamingo" is currently outside of "Chertsey" and "Stanton".

"Sickle" is outside of the steam tunnel tug replica "Hasty",

Each are fairly close to, but opposite sides of Butcher's bridge.

I have been working at Barby Marina the last few days and have seen Starry passing yesterday and today, Trevor came past with Corona and the unmistakable sound of Reginald's engine as Mike passed. I would have come to the entrance to have a chat but I was literally standing in the marina working on the new swing bridge to the island!
