I've found that (on a planing hull) I'm okay on the way out and I'm okay on the way back but stopping for even a few minutes rolling with the swell has me turning green. I went out on a sea fishing boat (obviously displacement) about 10 years ago which rolled continuously the moment it left the harbour. I spent all of my time hanging my head over the side. Apparently Nelson was a poor sailor too.

Sounds a bit like i used to be. about 6 year ago we went out for a 4 1/2 hour fishing trip. I was buzzing going out but when we got to the mark there was 5-6 foot swell going on, soa  bit rough.

Les than a minute, if that and all i did was throw up for the whole trip, i couldnt get up. I did get to hang over the side first few upchucks, much to the lad next to me who was rigging up, he got the back draught all over him as the wind blew it all back in my face and over him

I just kept thinking i want Jaws to pop up and pull me in lol.

I've just read this thread from start to finish, all 44 pages!  Cracking work, really amazing.  Its a big job next but when it's done it will seem like it wasn't that bad :)  keep it up, I can't wait to see the next step.

Thanks Heffalump ;)

I have after a week off it decided to sheath over the whole area, and maybe to the lower rubbing strake, which will be a good point to bled into, it is either that or just to the water line but that will mean grinding back a little all the way around the boat.

So plan

few pints then start by grinding away all the bad areas ready for filling with polyester filler and deeper areas laminating them back to thickness required thickness etc etc.

To re`laminate i will be using polyester resin not epoxy, cant justify the cost and more work involved with the epoxy. It is either around £100 for poly resin or near £400 for epoxy.

I will be using 350grm CSM and then on top a 280grm twill weave fabric to give a better smoother finish for the either epoxy or flocoat to go onto.

Hey then lots and lots of sanding back......oh joys to look forward to lol.

I need to look into the small areas of osmosis yet, may well grind back the whole area and wash it all down over a few weeks and leave it unitil next year to dry.

I will be doing it bit a ta time as in between i will be getting on with the rest a sin making the canopy and finishing the interior.

Need to motivate myself now after a time off fishing :)

My best catch last week :)

So what have you been up too since the beginning of the month?

I don't believe you have done nothing :)

Hi Rach

I have done a fair bit but dont like to update without pictures, but as it is you and you asked ;)

I have done a few more repairs to the hull, no pics at all as its boring to show holes that have been filled and sanded...and filled and sanded......etc etc etc lol

Go on then, this small hole got bigger like they do, GRP and rust go hand in hand lol Dont know what i prefer welding cars of patching GRP

MMmm i cant find the finished pics, but you get the idea...its smoother :)

I have started to make or modify the Houdini hatch as i am to tight to buy a new one, and well as you know i like to mess abut making things, this is in progress as i need some smaller seals a the ones i have are little to big. Oh and some Interscrews are needed as i will be keeping the latchs to keep it locked. I had to make new hinge knuckles for it as the original ones are a 2mm to low.

All will be shown when done ;)

I have decided for the inner frame for the hatch i want it made from Sapele.

This brings on a new project to make  a steam box :)

Cant help myself

Pic of it half way through it and no need to show more as it went  a bit soft it worked for half an hour if that, soon got up to 210degf

tn_20170808_183019.jpg

Like i do i mite make one from fibreglass or do one the easy way and get some timber.

I need the radius  to be 100mm so a bit tight for Mahogany so will prob end up lamintain a few strips together to get the 25mm x 20mm needed for the frame.

Another job was to get more done on the interiors :clapping:WE HAVE RUNNING HOT AND COLD WATER and HOT AIR, and a COOKER WORKING :clapping:

The Propex heater is great aswell is the Malaga 5 water heater. dont tell me you want pics of hot water running and me sat in my boxers sweating to death with the heater on lol

One point on the Halaga 5 water heater is the drain/pressure relief is a crap design IMO, to get a pipe/hose to fit it is not easy, and the drain tap vale drips a little when emptying the tank.

I made these for the seating trim and will be oiled and fitted once i fit the Sapele Veneered ply i got this weekend gone.

A few cuts and the remaining snaps out easy if you snap the router bits you have :banghead:

After a reat faff to get the Sapele ply, i went and payed for it when they dont even stock it any more, what plonkers, they had to go and get it in for me.

tn_20170814_161418.jpg

The veneered ply is for cladding the heads/cupboard and seating, plus a few more bits here and there.

A while ago i got 10m of canvas to practice my sewing in readiness for making the canopy, i used some to make a template

tn_20170802_183159.jpg

Just whizzed around with a jigsaw...carefully

tn_20170814_164745.jpg

Just needed a slight trim and spot on :)

The TV will be to the top left and behind that and to the right will be one of the access doors to the water heater. At the bottom another door for the Propex access. Some where also will be the power point for the USB/charger point with slide out shelf/s

Again this will be oiled, not keen on varnish.

tn_20170814_171936.jpg

I think thats about it for now.

I need supplies and boat funds have ran out :( that annoys me, serves me right for going mad on nights out and socialising. makes a change i guess.

Here is what I have been up to over the last few days in between trimming the bloomin 60 Conifers around the house, fair does T did most ;)

First off was to finish the cladding of the seating/berths and cupboard, plus make the shelving. One problem i came across was that the Propex instructions says that it is best to have the ducting as short as possible. So I set the the heater as close as possible to the vents. Slight mistake as the inlet and outlet on the unit is closer together than the vents can be fixed in place with out the ducting needing to be used of at least 6 inch long. The ducting will not flex enough with the 4 inch i used at first.

Just a matter of moving the heater back once I had removed most of the internal panels, a faff about but sorted now.

Oh yes this is before I found I needed to move the Propex back. new shelving and waiting for the cladding to go on.

To cut the Veneer I used an angle grinder with a plasma disc, very neat sharp cuts ;)

A little smoke is made and burns the edges a little but a whole lot better than a am and easier than a stanley knife.

To cut of the courtesy lights though i used a stanley knife.

tn_20170817_163601.jpg

To fix in place I found this box of nails that has been sat in the shed for years, never throw anything way :)

Aluminium and Copper, I used the copper for the trim, along with glue.

All panels stapled then glued down, stapled close to the edge so then they will be covered by the trim when finished.

Here I just finished the aperture trim so still the doors and panels to make this week I hope.

Storage space, all panels are removable by removing a few screws if i need access in the future.

Now to the seating, all Sapele trim and veneer again. Top trim is just a soft wood as no point in using Sapele there.

With all that being done I am a happy chappy

In between all that I wanted to get a start on the wiring, thing is I still hadnt painted the inner door panels and there was a few holes that needed to be filled from when i was working out where to fit the gas strut for the to half of the door.

Quick chamfer and fill then and and wipe down before a few coats of paint.
