We looked at moorings on Windermere and Ullswater just out of interest really. Prices on Winermere are near  grand but Ullwater <£500 , Ullswater is a lot better for us. A lot less commercialized which we like. 

 

For that price we can take it up and leave it there for a few weeks / months and bring it home for fettling and move it other places. I Like the idea to know we have a mooring if we want to use one 

 

See what happens long way off yet ;)

Your new galley has been a bone of contention in our house this past few weeks. :)

We have been trying and failing to come up with a way to fit an oven to NC. We are planning a spruce up of the galley in the autumn but just can't find a cooker that will be small enough to fit in the space we have yet still leaving a useable pan drawer beneath.

Now dont go falling out over the galley on my boat ( still not decided on a name for it yet T reckons Jolly Wolly :rolleyes: )

Leave that for who has the last glass of wine or who is cooking tea next lol.

What cooker have you fitted at the minute. Ah i guess you dont have one fitted as you say `trying to fit an oven`

Come to think of it i dont think i found one smaller than the Voyager 4500 i have fitted.

This is the same as ours. The cupboard by the steps is actually quite large as it goes back behind the steps. The pan drawer beneath the hob isn't as big as it looks as the hull curves up behind it so it isn't full depth and we have a fair bit of stuff in there.

well i have had a look for an oven wiht les height than the Voyager 4500 and only found this one

How about raising the oven higher to keep as much space below as possible. Aslong as you have the space as needed above the stove it will be ok i reckon. 

Hey hang the pans on the back wall even, just trying to think of idea for you. I know how you liek to cook :)

Don't really want to raise the level of the work surface at one side. Don't think that would look right. We are trying to keep it as original looking as possible.

Right now I think we are resigned to the fact that we are just going to replace the hob like for like and replace the work surface. 

We manage well enough with what we have I suppose. Anyway it's bbq season soon so we won't be using the galley.

Now i got a bit done done this weekend. As it has been nice i thought i would get the repairs done to the cabin top. Just a matter of using some Creeping Carck, bit of a waste though as i couldnt get all the water out the laminate but it did get through as it strated to drip into the cabin. very watery. That was another reason i didnt want to bother with resin as i knew there would be little chance of drying it out enough for resin. 

 

Besides that i fitted the deck drains at last.

Just a matter of slitting the fitting to take an angle grinder spanner so i can tighten them up.

To seal them again i used Sikaflex 291i, just a bead around the recess then fit the drain.

I forgot to get pics of the underside but you get the jist. Just a lock nut and then the compression fitting with a few inch of copper pipe. 

 

Job number two was the anchor locker hatch.

I wanted a risen edge around the hatch opening, just to try and let as little water in as possible. It will get wet enough with the wet anchor and chain. 

To do this i just laiminated 4 x 650grm combo to get around 8mm thick edge.

 

This is where i finished the job with last year, by eck that long ago.

Next i taped down Tinfoil around the cut. Tinfoil is great stuff for if you dont have or want to use a release agent like PVA Blue. It will just peal off the finished laminate. Alos it will stop resin running in between the gap and into the locker.

You can see the opening edge where i needed to laminate over to get what i need.

Then just a matter of laminating over

Once set i could see the edge i need to cut back to and marked then used an anlge grinder and slitting disc. Just leaving a little more on thug as i can sand back to get a better fit once it is in place.

Trimmed back to the width i wanted and then tapered the outer edge ready to be filled and made good.

Still a bit go as you can see, plenty of filling and sanding but it should be ok when finished. 

I was wanting to get the hatch finished and the rear locker seat hatch laminated but today i had to go out with T and her kids for mothers day ( see Rach we all have to sacrifice on some things lol )

 

I think was all for this weekend

 Not much to look at but i am happy enough of finding and fixing the leak. I am in the process of a shopping list for the week of i have in a few week. In the men time i hope to have finished the insulation, not a great deal to do, and lined out. Run the hot water pipe and deck filler fitted. 

Then on my week off i can get on with making the cabin hatch and finish the frame work for the berths/seating and more i hope.

Been busy with bits n bobs , the interior is now near fully insulated and lined, the bow needs to be lined and the cabin top front area needs insulatin and lining which i will be don soon as I have a week off work.......to do work lol. It will be on the boat though so I cant complain.

 

I am still trying to make my mind up on a water heater upto now itis a Morco F-11. I have spoke to my local BSC chap and he says I an can still fit a non room sealed water heater as the boat is still registered. H eis coming around in a few week when he is not to busy to see what I am upto with it and he will advice what to do and we will talk on the gas works etc.

Yesterday I got another compressor to un along side the one i have to get a better CFM, should bet around 23 CFM from both. Reason is  i will be soda blasting the hull below the waterline as I know it needs a lot of work from when i stripped it back and soda blasting helps show the bad spots up easier than sanding

I ddi go and buy a Dremmel to do some detail work. I didnt get it for just that though but i need it for more up coming work.

I screwed block in again to support the cut out from earlier. Then smaller screws were used to support the cut out level with the new risen edge.

Once level the whole area was PVA Blued wiht three coats. I brushed this on this tie. It was such a warm day they coats set within five minutes.

I decided to make a full new hatch so four 650grm combo  and a 350 grm CSM was laid up. A few inchs over size so again can be cut back to size.

I only left it for near an hour which was not long enough as you can see it bowed a little. Not a problem though as it will pull down when there catch is in place with hinges.

That is as far as I got with that. 

 

Now another job was the cleat for tying off the anchor line. I have fitted one. I say fitted not as yet fully fitted as I have lost the M14 bolt for the cleat. 

 

This cleat i bought many years ago for another boat i ahd but decided not to fit it. Goes to show never through anything out hey.

 

I made a backing plate out of more 3mm S i had left.

I need to find or decide on the bow roller yet. I am looking for one that will be high enough so the line goes over the locker edge. If i cant I will fit a small straight fair lead on a block to lift it higher if need be to clear it. 

 

These arrived the other day one for the rear deck and other for the bilge etc

This is the deck hull fitting position. A bit low but the inlet will have a removable bung anyway. The original ater level is the level of the primer and I am reckoning the water level will be an inch or so higher wiht the extra weight i have added.

I have had to fit it here as the deck beams are central to where the ring hole is above the fitting.

This job I have been wanting to do for a long time now which is to finish the rear locker seats.

I used a spray gun for the PVA Blue for ease. three coats as always.

While it was drying i cut the 650grm combo and CSM. three combo and one 350grm CSM.

Weighed for getting the 2.5 times the resin needed

 Not the best with pics as I cant find the ones of the finished job. They are sealed with sikaflex and painted.

 

The acrylic arrived for th the hatch that I will be making next week. For some reason they sent two sheets in two different parcels but one had an invoice the other with out. Ah well a sheet of 8mm acrylic up :)

If i get half the to do list done I have for my week off I will get plenty done.

What did I do wrong from the start before I had this week off. I made plans on what I will get done, ah well got some done at least. I wasted 3-4 days due to problems at home so i could of got a whole lot more done.

I was doing about four jobs at once while things set a sin filler, paint, adhesive etc etc.

To start I got on with the anchor locker it is near done, not quite happy with it.


As the egse slope down They needed to built up for the hinges to sit flat. A little GRP filler does the trick here.

Here are the outer hings risers, a good 10mm thick, I used Filler here which is a bit brittle for screwing into, although the screws go through to the 8mm GRP of the boat. Undecided but i may make a mould from these risers then lay up GRP in the moulds then use them for better grip for the screws and also no cracking.

Getting there, as you can see there is a little to be sanded back to get the hatch to sit flush.

So while i was faffing on the boat the locket hatch latch arrived.

 Easy job, just a matter of a cut out and bolt in place from underneath with the supplied bolt and clamp.

One of the jobs i was wanting to try out was the cold waters system. I got a leisure battery and a few more fitting but that is as far as I got, well but for the filler pipe.

Not easy but a bit of heat and a few clips to prevent it from kinking it all went fine. 

I had to bend it around like this as the deck filler is ok where  it is but to get it to the tank filler neck it had to clear the 50mm insulation but not to far as to protrude into the deck space which will be paneled over at some stage. 

These cheap hole saws are great for the money even to cut a few 6mm GRP  holes.

Originally i wanted the batteries to be in the cabin under the step, as the water pump is now there there home will be under the rear deck tight to the bulkhead.

  I have some 25x3 Ally angle left so made use of it to make a Battery rack for the two 110amp. 

Just cut a few lengths and bolted them together in time for when it will be sealed and screwed down.

Still need to clean back and paint down here yet.

Just to the side is the water system drain/shower pump. The pipe will go under the batteries and T off to the shower and the system drain.

A few pics but I just need to fit three panels to finish the lining out. Takes a good while when the panels are curved and in a three dimensional way, they need to be left to set fully just in case they pull off a little.  

Always looks worse at first to look good....so they say.

I did this in two section to make it easier to fit.

To get a close cut ( yes i cut a wee bit to much out on a few side but there will be trim once its all done ) cut out wider and wider bit by bit untill you can get a rule in to measure how far you need to go.

Transfer the measurement to the front in a few places and cut back, I used this tool.

In prep for the dread foam. I clogged up the foam gun so I had to resort to the one use cans as back up. Not to kean on these as they are harder to control the flow.

Here it is all screwed back with a little adhesive around the frames and he foam that has been already fitted.

Again holes were drilled to pump the foam into the uneven areas.

I was seeing if it worked what i was trying to do.

 

And here we are at the minute with it all.

 

I am at one of them stages when I feel I am getting somewhere again :)

A days or so ago I checked out the cold water system was running ok and no leaks etc etc. Only the cold water as I have still yet to get a water heater and we are a while of that yet. Still on deciding which to get still.

I have not yet fitted a work top so all I did was connect the taps to the Galley and heads to try it out/I left it under pressure for a while to see if there was any leaks then turned on the taps. All fine and works a treat but for one of the taps I got for some reason is not letting water through. Not to mind as i go two the same by mistake. 

The water tanks fill well maybe a little slow to fill the second tank as I was told it would be. By time the first is full the second takes a minute or two to level out. I know i should have fitted 28mm pipe to balance the tanks but when i ordered them it was to late. I will either put up with 7 minutes to fill the two 75l tanks or fit another 15mm balance pipe. 

I can either do that or change the balance pipe to 22mm or 28mm and use T reducers for the 15mm system. 

The Gulper 220 pump is all good to drain the system, This will also be used as the shower drain. I have fitted two separate shut of taps for when I want to drain the shower or system.

Sorry no pics of that but they will come when i get them.


I ran out of expanding foam but for the Wicks own which I have had lying around for a while. I dont really want to use this as it is not, as far as I know, closed cell. I have been using Soudal gun grade which is. All that needs to be done is a few feet under each gunnel. Just me being picky i guess. 


Mean while, the frame work for the seating/berths.

Using 32mmx18mm planed timber and 9mm harwood ply I set to work today.

I had a clean out as it was getting messy in there.

As said 9mm hardwood ply was used on top. The side will be Sapele 4mm veneered ply with courtesy lights towards the bottom.

Tomorrows job is to cut out the lockers and do the storage cupboard/water heater cupboard. 

There is space is for a cool box ( where the grey step is in the pic at the bottom ) as I do not think there is a need for a fridge. Saying that just in case I have made it big enough for one to fit ( 500mm wide ) if we decide to get one in the future. There is 12v power there and also gas for it from the cabin heater which will be at the bottom of the cupboard.

Oh yes there is a 250mm space between the seating and cooker which will be more storage and a fold down work top for when more space is needed.

Well then, getting there on the interior. I am tempted to go and collect the sand blaster I got a week or so ago so when I get a nice weekend I can then give it a go on the hull. If I dont then it will not be here until the first week of June.
