Castlefield Basin moorings

Featured Posts

Will be in Castlefield tomorrow. Is there :-

1) plenty of space at the moment

2) any place to get rid of rubbish (if not anywhere between Sale and Castlefield)

3) time limit on mooring

Thanks

No idea about space

There are/were recycling bins opposite the YMCA but no big rubbish bins unless you use one of the bins belonging to a business....not that I would condone that of course!

I think it's now 48hrs....we were up by foot the other week and noticed a load of new signs had gone up....however some of the boats were the same as they have been for at least the last few years.

Hope that helps

Cheers

Gareth

In Castlefield at present. There are spaces currently but the situation changes constantly. I arrived yesterday morning and so far there seems a regular change of boats. No elsan or rubbish facilities at present. Lovely spot.

There is usually space down the arm to the right of Lock 92 - the old coal wharf, although sometimes it can be quite busy.

There is no rubbish disposal points between Sale and Castlefield and as mentioned the Elsan is currently out of action.

I seem to remember that its 72hr moorings, however again, as already mentioned there are now signs up displaying how long you are allowed.

The signs last Spring said 72 hours. You have to look up to see them as they are mounted quite high so easy to miss them. Plenty of bins around the wharf, just depends if they've been emptied.

Do the signs say 72 or 48 hrs? Just wondering because we will be up later in the year. Also try The Knott bar under the railway opposite deansgate station. Great beer & food.

Cheers

  • 2 years later...

Plenty of room at lunch time today (Friday). Believe it is 72 hours although signs are not clear. Talking of which, the signs are not clear on exactly where the private moorings are.

Also two new wooden posts have been placed in the water at the turning/winding end of Catlefield advising that there is shallow water. Makes turning a bit tight (not the shallow water, the blooming posts!)
