Consall Station - Churnet Valley Railway should be close enough....

GCR at Loughborough is as close. Bosworth Battlefield Railway is within walking distance.

Basically, the railways followed the canal, so are never far away.

The wife is into steam trains. Any steam trains close or accessible to the canal network?

Keighley and Worth Valley Railway next to the Leeds & Liverpool canal. also on the L & L the Embsay Railway is only a bus ride from Skipton

Having been on both the Churnett Valley railway and llangllen railway and done both respective canals several times, i wouldn't like to choose!! But i did like mooring up next to the station (after our train trip, were dogs were welcome) and travelling along the canal with the steam train coming towards us! You dont get such a good view , if any, of the trains from the canal on the llangollen but you do have the lovely Welsh hills and a couple of aquaducts!!

If you are into your locomotives i think you will be very disappointed eith the Churnet Valley railway at the moment.

Why? Is an Austerity saddle tank hauling all the trains? Or are they all diesels?
