ALVECOTE HISTORIC BOAT GATHERING

AUGUST 24th 25th 26th BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND.

Just a reminder to all that the Historic Boat gathering is fast approaching. This year there will be even more live music featuring our

'Bands on the Balcony' afternoon music sets from a variety of performing artists.

The Gathering will have floating stalls, Boaters Breakfast and Beer Garden BBQ every day. We are hoping that a good number of Historic boats will be in attendance with over 40 already expressing an interest in attending. This is the Gathering for those who don't do rallies! Just turn up and have a relaxed weekend on your boat discussing what we all like .....Beer erm I mean Boats.

Food will be available at the Pub all weekend but early booking recommended to avoid disappointment.

The Les Lapworth Award will be running in it's third year for the best turned out Historic Boat.

There will be a prize of a free Hull Blacking for the best Illuminated boat on Saturday Night. So dig out your fairy lights and Generators and join in the summer fun. (It could be a cheap dry docking and blacking) and for everyone to enter.

If you play an Instrument then turn up and play in the beer Garden in the sunshine sat on the sofa while enjoying a pint...

Real Ale Bar will be running upstairs all weekend, featuring some fine local Beers.

There will even be a fun fair for the Little people.

No booking in forms or paperwork just turn up and tie up and have fun.

I have listed some of the pre booked bands below but there is always room for more. If you have a group and want to play or have a practise then contact me and we can fit you into one of the Bars.

Hi- We don't have an historic narrowboat (although she is getting on a bit)- but we recently moved moorings to Alvecote and we're so looking forward to seeing all the boats arrive for this gathering.

Sounds a great weekend

It was a very good event last year - or so we thought at least!

One of the good things is the boats largely lying with ther back ends to the side of the marina, meaning you can see all of them. The events where boats get breasted 3,4, 5 or even 6 deep across the canals means it is possible to simply know what the boats hidden at the back were.

We are hoping to get our "Sickle" up to it, but haven't quite worked out how we will manage that yet.

Recommended - and don't be put off my the modern exterior of the "Samuel Barlow" - it really is a great meeting place, with good ales, and top notch food.

should also have added to my earlier post-"Looking forward to meeting lots of forum members as well"

Agree with Alan's comments about the pub- we've sampled quite a few meals now- not been disappointed and the dog gets a dinner as well for a small donation for the RSPCA

See you there

Jackie

Python will be there again this year - and it will not take people too many guesses to know which of her crew were quickest to volunteer for that event ;)

It was a brilliant event last year and we are thoroughly looking forward to it again this year

I'm hoping to get Cobbett up this year. Such a long drag from Coventry though, sigh .,..

My heart bleeds....

Try bringing a boat (NO two boats...Nobody expects...) from Herts/Bucks/Beds border.

PS (still working on Brum between the 8th and 11th - but don't tell OH)

Hmm.....

Catrin & Wrigglefingers conspiring...... Could be at least one of two things.

Doesn't sound like music to my ears, reckon it is something to do with being stitched up!

Thanks Lawrence. MARQUIS will be there. Same mooring would be nice and two dogs this year! Best wishes, James
