dreadnought
hi, i,ve got a 30ft nb, and every time, it seems,i get the centre rope caught or snagged on the pole and plank racks, so, i,m thinking of getting rid of them, i think i,ll only need a pole and that can be stowed nearer the bow end, any thoughts would be greatly recieved, cheers for now
BEngo
Take it off, but retain it. Boat for a week or two without it and see if you think it is an improvement. If not, put it back. Shafts without a home tend to gravitate to the handrails where they are a PITA when you need to grab the handrail quickly. N
saltysplash
And the plank you may never use for all the time you own the boat but get rid of it and........you can be sure the next time you moor youll need that plank
Robbo
You can get magnetic racks so you can position them where you want, so if you do get rid you can easily replace. I think there around £40. Edit to add link http://www.atlantaboats.co.uk/shop.html Edited August 12, 2012 by Robbo

BlueStringPudding
I've found it a great help having two centre ropes. Especially in winter when I have logs and coal on the roof which used to catch the rope - not to mention the tail of the wind turbine which the rope would always be the wrong side of. Davidss
Does a 30 foot boat really need a centre rope, or ropes? Just suggesting a possible alternative solution.
ditchcrawler
Does a 30 foot boat really need a centre rope, or ropes? Just suggesting a possible alternative solution. It's the only way to hold both ends in with one hand with ease
cheshire~rose
Can you not move the rack to the front of the boat? If you leave your pole on the roof it will not only, as has already been said, always bee at the edge and in the way of the handrail, it will be sitting in a puddle of water and the bottom will be wet more often than it is dry meaning it will rot through much faster. You are bound to find you want a plank and if you leave that on the roof then the area under it will soon start to suffer from being damp and you will have rust bubbling up through the paintwork Two ropes is also a good plan! blackrose
Just fit two centre ropes, Problem solved. Firesprite That's what I'd try first. One rope down each side.
Chertsey
Or practise flicking the rope over?

cheshire~rose
anyone ever seen poles and / or boards mounted on one side? I am struggling to think how this could be done without them getting in the way if you have to walk along the gunwhales?
FadeToScarlet
anyone ever seen poles and / or boards mounted on one side? Yes, but not on a modern boat. On a working boat, you might have loops of rope to hold a shaft on the cloths.
