Following on from the sad news of Maureens death the funeral will be held on Friday 30th March at 11 o'clock. It will be at St Michael & All Angels Church, Middlewich and if it can be arranged the coffin will arrive at Middlewich Wharf by boat and then be taken to the church.

I do hope that this can be arranged, as I well recall a chat with Maureen a few years ago, when she told me that she had come into the cottage from a boat, and that she intended to leave "in a box" by boat.

The boat carrying Maureen’s coffin will leave Wardle Lock at 9.45, arriving at Middlewich Town Wharf at 10.40

The service will be in St Michael & All Angels Church, Middlewich at 11.00. Burial will be at Middlewich Cemetery – close friends, BW staff and family only.

Maureen was a lovely lady, whose spirit I'm sure will always be around to watch as we pass through 'her lock'

Whilst not wishing to be voyeuristic in any way shape or form Mrs T and myself would be grateful if any one on this forum, who is attending Maureen's funeral, could take some photographs of the cortège as we are not able to get there.

Thank you.

We are one of the many grateful hirers (at the time) who were guided by Maureen's pearls of wisdom.

Maureen's coffin was carried about Clayton's motor Tay steered by Jim Taylor, from Wardle Lock to Town Wharf, with the towpath thronged with mourners. There followed a lovely service at St Michael & All Angels which included a song written in her memory & a touching eulogy & a cracking photo of her mop in hand, aboard butty Ethel. A wonderful send off for a lovely woman.

RIP Maureen Shaw.

Feel it is fitting that my first post is to say I felt privileged today to be among those walking along the towpath accompanying Maureen's coffin. Never experienced a tongue lashing, only great kindnes and sweets for our two young sons whom she always asked about even when they had grown up and did not always cruise with us. Thank you on behalf of all boaters to those who organised this wonderful send off for her, steering so expertly and locking Tay through so efficiently.

Heard a BW man tell someone that his patch was now from 'Maureen's lock, to Barbridge...'so even they call the lock by her name!

Any plans for a petition to get the name changed and for a collection for a plaque in her memory?
