Ebay vintage engine sales

Latest HNBC magazine shows disposal of a stock of Listers:

Recon marine JP2 with Blackstone box £10K

Recon HR2 (no gearbox) £3K

New (sic) HR2 (no gearbox) £3.5K

Either HR2 can be supplied with either a Blackstone box (3:1) or (new) PRM P150 at an extra £1K

I recognise the seller as John Regan. If it's the one I think it is, the "new" HR2 was actually one used to train technical staff in dismantling and reassembly of the engines, so is claimed to be "as new" but has been taken apart and put back together a few times, (unless he now has a different one).

(From photos in the advert, each of the engines has had a new coat of "Lister green" paint since I saw them a few months ago).

Quite telling being advertised anonymously.

Well with at least the casing of the reverse part of the box only.

Whether it actually contains anything isn't exactly obvious, I would say!

I wonder if seller is John Pattle?  I think he used to specialise in these, and the location sounds right.

These are all still listed as for sale in the latest edition of HNBC magazine.

(Mind you, so is narrow boat "Owl", so like that it is possible any or all are now sold).

I see the Skandia from Reginald is now for sale on ebay.

I'd like to point out this is not my sale. I disposed of the seized engine for a pittance to the boatyard that removed it for me, and they have decided to list it on ebay.

Anyone considering buying it needs to be aware the engine seized as stated in the listing, and probably needs a new big end bearing casting.

The engine also has three other tricky problems, all cooling-related. The water jacket on the cylinder is leaking badly, having corroded through from the inside. The water pump casting is cracked and is leaking coolant at about 1 litre an hour even when the engine is not running. The cooling jacket around the exhaust expansion box is cracked, has been repaired and the repair has failed, again leaking coolant at a helluva rate.

The £3,500 asking price seems hopelessly optimistic to me, but that is their decision not mine. Fair play to them if they can get it!
