well finally had to tow my boat to the chaps who will be giving it a new stern gear and blacking plus a few other bits.

 

as engine not rewired yet.(i plan to do this once its back in and properly bolted down)

i had a friend tow me there, which was hard due to the wind etc today. after a faff getting out of the marina we breasted up and tackled the rest of the journey.

and once the water was out glad to see the under water bits for the first time since i owned her.

 

 

 

 

cant wait till its all done and i can get the boat moving freely again.

the yard are doing a fantastic job on the boat. have seen it at the weekend while it was standing.

and engine bay cleaned red oxided and painted.

hopefully engine in and new stern gear fitting this week plus new rudder as front blade part had corroded away to nothing. (in addition to the bottom bearing that i knew was on its way out.

cant wait to get the boat back and crack on with the wiring.

back in the water now since monday, first chance to have a proper look today.

 

very relieved that happily afloat.

well time for an update.

 

got the wiring supplies (great service from forum member keith m)

 

drilled a 2 inch hole in bulkhead from engine to cabin.

and a 3 inch hole in the wooden inner bulkhead.

 

 

fitted master/charging selector switch

 

 

made new instrument panel and labelled

 

 

fitted hose pipe around edge glued with marineflex to protect wiring from chaffing.

 

 

built new battery box with in-built securing strap

 

 

wiring in ready for new panel.

happy days. as of saturday at 6.30pm the engine is running.

after 7 months of being stuck and needing towing everywhere i now have a fully functioning boat again.

 

words can not express my relief/joy.

ammeter showing between 40 and 60 amps charge depending on revs.

and gauges now work as 3 are new.

 

and the bilge pump switch actually works and turns a pump on.

 

I think there could be some cruising this weekend to get a feel for the new rudder etc.

well time for another update.

 

was very glad to have got my bss certificate passed (after a scary moment involving a non standard fuel tank vent)

 

here is what i managed to get through with in the end

 

 

heres my new intrument panel

 

 

and finally got round to fittimg my front fender

 

 

then today started fitting my centre eye bolt for centre ropes.

started my drilling a 12mm hole in a 200mm square plate of 6mm steel. then 8 5mm holes countersunk.

then repeated the process again on a second plate

 

 

then mark up and drill the same in roof. only the 12mm through the roof.

 

 

then silicone and screw into position.

 

 

holes were filled and sanded and painted in primer and thats as far i got.

 

now cruising will be much easier.

have given the roof a further coat of primer

 

then sanded back and rollered on a coat of 2 pack epoxy barrier coat.

 

 

then today sanded back again tack clothed and rollered on the first coat of cream topcoat gloss.

lots of time spent on painting at present as want to get the most from the good weather at the minute,

Building a front cratch onto a boat. I'm half considering making the whole construction out of wood and glass/perspex but am still weighing up ideas.

cratches are fairly easy to build given the right knowledge/skills. I built my frame from iroko left over from the roof build. will be adding to the design shortly as need to adjust to mount tunnel light on front.

 

will be putting in 10mm acrylic to form the window as i was lucky enough to be given a sheet by a friend.

well managed to get a few odd jobs completed on sunday.

 

made up a couple of blocks for the fairleads to sit on and sanded and primered them.

 

glued and screwed to the boat and fitted fairleads both sides.

 

 

then planed the second handrail and filled the screwholes sanded and primed.

 

also sanded down the filler in screwholes on the boat sides and primed.

 

now ready to start preping for painting.

ok finally after a hectic week of my dad being in hospital and myself recovering from food poisoning i finally find time to update my blog with the lastest pics

 

have managed to undercoat one side of the boat. no pics as it was a boring grey colour.

 

then marked up the panels positions on the same side and got a first coat of topcoat on the side.

 

a few pictures. cream coachlines will be addded later after more topcats.
