Olympic Water Chariots

In the 'narrowboat world' link, the skipper refers to 'his invoices'.

Looks like he was not an employee, but self-employed - guess he stands in line with the other creditors.

However these Chariot people (by whatever legal name) are total are*oles - take the money and run and leave the people who did the work to run the risk of losing their homes.

Wonder if this is the tip of the Olympic bad debt pile?

I'm meeting with Haringey Council very soon to discuss this mess. Firstly we are looking at what funding there was and where it came from, then what happens to the 'exclusive contract' for 15 years that they signed. We hope it doesn't mean that no one else gets to run boating on the river.

Obviously Haringey are not impressed by all of the spin and subsequent mess left behind. They were told '100 jobs for local unemployed youth,' but it didn't happen.

We need to bring affordable boating back to Haringey.

And fewer gullible councillors/LG officials

My main frustration is with people who know nowt about boating making uninformed decisions.

Why didn't they think to ring the people who manage the two trip boats further up and ask them why they moved the business from the Lower Lee?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Two years ago, it was thought stated that Water Chariots would carry 1000 per hour at peak times during the Olympics. This was the figure given to BW's board by its regeneration director.

You hit the nail on the head by saying that people know nothing about boating making uninformed decisions.

They were called British Waterways.

Just maybe BW were cleverer than they let on, they knew it would collapse leaving them with a new safer lock landing at Tottenham and mooring pontoons at Limehouse (hopefully reinstaing the missing 14 day visitor mooring!)

In any event if this is restarted there is no way they should be allowed to use the Tottenham Lock landing to the exclusion of boaters its just too dangerous.

Sounds less than kosher. I would like to know what the status of the 15 year licence to operate is. Can it be regarded as an asset or do CaRT have the option suspend or transfer it to another company?

I think the receivers are slightly in the dark at the moment regarding what assets Water Chariots (Mk2) actually own -

Now its three chariots

The situation in brief is -

Water Chariots (Mk1), now trading under a different name, has applied to be struck off.

Water Chariots (MK2), call in rhe receivers last Tuesday.

Old Ford Lock River Services Limited which appears to still be trading, holds title to all the water buses and taxis but has charges against them.

Hi Allan, in your write up in NBW you write about boats built by "Zwagers Bullit", they are built by a yard named "Zwagers", and "Bullit" is the name of a type of the boats they build, mainly smaller aluminium tenders/water-taxis.

Not that this changes anything to your write up, but only to explain what is what.

Peter.

Hi Peter,

You are quite correct.

The documentation I have gives the builder as 'Zwagers Bullit Netherlands' and the boat type as 'Bullit 660 Aluminium'.

However, having checked, the builder is normally known in the uk simply as 'Zwagers' or 'Zwagers Boating' and the boats as 'Alumax Bullit 660'.

So they are being advertised by the administrators

MORE: what an odd way of going about selling them. Why not do something similar to what BW used to do
