wolfie8832
Making journey home from Saul marina on Saturday to Tattenhall in the northwest. I noticed the weather gone colder this week, are the canals still thawed or is anyone iced in. The route am planning to take is up the river Seven to Stourport basin, Then onwards up the Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal, then Shropshire union to chester. Be grateful if anyone knows of any problems on route, I know about booking the passage at Gloucester to get on to the river seven. Thank you, Mark

LoneWolf
I think the Shroppie is still shut at Woodseaves cutting This is the latest i received by email but i havent checked waterscape Closure to navigation and towpath at Woodseaves Cutting due to rock fall Friday 14 January 2011 until further notice UPDATE (25 January 2011): A specialist contractor will commence works to remove loose and dangerous material from the face of the cutting on Thursday 27th January. When this material has been removed a second contract team will be able to safely access the site of the rock slide to commence removal of debris from the bed of the canal. It is difficult to confirm a date for the full reopening of the canal to boat traffic at this present time. We are exploring all options that may enable us to facilitate some restricted passage past the rockslide until full access is possible. Further updates will be issued week commencing 31st January 2011 on completing the removal of the dangerous material from the rock face. British Waterways apologise for any inconvenience caused. Thank you, Mark Stourport Basin has a bit of thin ice over parts of it, as does the canal above York Street lock. Patchy ice all the way to Kinver. Haven't been further north than that but I hear that it is much the same to Wolverhampton. Have a good trip. Bob.

Graham Davis
Considering that the Severn up here is a couple of feet higher than normal you might be waiting longer than that! It was so high at Caersws they closed the Cambrian Railway. In the 8 years we have been here I have never seen it so high.
sumajan
Latest info re Woodseaves Cutting on the Shroppie is that it will remain closed until further notice although BW are giving an update on Tuesday 8th/Feb but this will only refer to contractors dredging the rock fall from that location. When you're able to move from your present moorings it may be worth taking your time up the Staffs & Worcs.
