Overplating Narrowboat

Featured Posts

Hi

Is there anything special about the steel plate used to build (overplate) narrowboats? Will HR mild steel plate suffice?

Usually it's at best 43A mild steel. The expensive/good guys build with blasted and primed or pickled and primed. The bottom of the market uses the cheapest decoiled mild steel they can get. HR MS will fine if you give it a couple of coats of black which is the same as the rest of the boat.
