Well, that's a mystery solved: I have seen a boat of just this shape (possibly even this actual boat) and wondered who built it, as it looked a bit, but not quite, like a Springer. I know nothing of "A,. Rice" - does anyone else?

I know nothing of Banana engines either, though I have seen a few yellow ones.

The Transit "Banana " Engine is so called coz the inlet Manifold shape is reminiscent of a Bunch Bananas

Athy they are called Banana engines due to the shape of the inlet manifold on top of the engine that resembles a bunch of Bananas by all accounts it sounds a cracking engine i have read good for at least 300k miles before re-build as far as the boat builder goes i also as Manuel would say "i know nothing" ;)

Thanks, C and C. The more that you live is the more that you learn.

The boat looks about 35 - 38 feet long, so with this "Banana" 2.5 litre engine you should be able to raise a little extra cash towing water-skiers.

Do they specialise in water skiing then?

Your boat is looking good, but your land-transport is looking even better, it's a bit of a rare good looking Moto-Guzzi, a Lodola, if my tired eyes don't fool me.

They are lovely bikes, there aren't many around anymore, and I don't even think that many were made, but I like the looks of them and the very special sound of their engine.

It takes a bit of getting used to, with brake and gear-change on the opposite site of most modern bikes.

Take good care of your bike (and boat of course) and you'll never need or want another one (unless you can find a similar one).

Oh dear, 3 years ago my friend said "are you really going to buy a boat" I said "of course, just not sure if it will be this boat".

I was obviously lying, completely smitten and trying to work out if my sister would lend me the 2 grand that put her out of my reach.

So much graft and pride and joy I have done/had, new relationships made and old ones mended (and paid off my sis), she is surely worth twice what I paid and I am more smitten than ever.

There is just one hitch that is hard to ignore.

60ft boat. Huddersfield Broad Canal...

I just can't see her as my ex-boat :-( How do people bring themselves to the inevitable??
