So as the title says my brother and I have unexpectedly become a boat owners as earlier this year my father died, as he was living on a narrow boat at the time of his death its part of his estate that we are having to deal with, aside from the internal fit out that needs compleating/redoing as it is only half done as well as being used as a workshop, we know that the bottom needs re-blacking and repaint of the whole boat, the tentative plan at the moment is for my brother and I to do as much of the work ourselves, with this in mind I have been looking into what we would need to do now and further do the line. After having looked at the options and I believe getting it on too long term hardstanding would suit our needs best with regards to cost/timeline. so I'm looking for some recommendations for hard standing around Bradford on Avon or as near as possible as neither of us has a car. Also before anything is decided about what we're going to do I'd like to get a surveyor out to go over the whole boat to find out if there are any problems and to also value the boat; as for if we decide to sell it as a project, so recommendations for local surveyors would be good thanks. as this has turned into rather a rambling post let me bullet point the important questions 1. recommendations for hard standing in or as near to Bradford on Avon as possible? and local crane/transporters if needed ? 2. recommendations for surveyors in the Wiltshire area? 3. any other advice that might be needed? thanks hanna

Fire and CO safety on the K&A / R Avon - WFRS 18 Jan
Rob@BSSOffice posted a topic in General Boating
Not least because of recent sad incidents, I want to give this Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service event some publicity - check out their twitter feed. Boat Safety presentation 7:30pm18th Jan Cross Keys Great Bedwyn .If you own a canal boat come along collect free smoke-carbon monoxide alarm There's a 30 minute chat, then they will be handing out free smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to boat owners. Tell your mates, alert them on Snap Chat, Facebook, text them, call them, knock on their boat, by any means get them there. By my reckoning, I think from memory (caveat) its been 6 boaters died in 5 boat fires between Newbury and Bristol since 2003 ................... And if you're not from that area, call your local fire service and ask for a boat fire risk/safety check. Please spread the word Thanks
