  1. Hi all, I am currently renovating my narrowboat and I need to un-plumb and remove a washing machine. I have no water in my water tank at the moment so I know it's safe to remove it without worrying about flooding the boat, but how do I permanently remove all the plumbing and disconnect the pipes from the water tank? I'm hoping this is a very easy job and I'm just showing my total lack of knowledge here! I'd greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks
  2. Hi. I have a honda 26i Generator and it will not run my new washing machine. so heres the sequence —honda 2.6i does not run my machine BUT it does run my neighbours larger machine - so not a load problem —my neighbours 2k unbranded noisy generator does run my Machine - so not a load problem both machines have digital inverter Motors any advice At all welcome their machine is no longer on the market so i cant buy one. many thanks in advance steve
  3. Hi all, I've been considering buying a washer dryer for the boat, to run off a 3kw vetus pure sine wave inverter, only to be operated with the motor running. Cold washing only. I've had the suggestion made that Candy washing machines are the most common washing machines in boats, and are a good option as they are relatively basic so more likely to work with an inverter. But I don't know if this necessarily means that a Candy washer dryer is the best option. Does anyone have any experience buying a washer dryer and have any good tips to offer, including on brand? Cheers.
  4. And as my kitchen conundrum continues, thought I'd try and make some in roads to the side of the galley that will house my washer and dishwasher. I heard before that there is a particular washing machine favoured by boaters - might it have been a bit less deep or something? Anyway, I have a machine that is 550mm deep including the rear of its counter top that sticks out past the rest of the machine - it bodes reasonably well for fitting. I've looked at dishwashers - 550mm seems about the best (and pretty typical) for the depth of a standard 600mm wide machine. I'm thinking if there is not enough room for the plumbing behind, then I can just hack away at the ply sides of the boat. But I have two main questions - firstly, what are the waste water arrangements for these appliances? Out the side through a skin fitting I presume but should one still use a trap? Secondly - any clever ideas on how to get the water feed over from the other side of the boat? I'm thinking to run it under the floor but then it could leak... Obviously I could avoid any joins under the floor by bending the plastic pipe a bit - though that might be quite tight. Or is under floor piping a no-no? Could the pipe freeze or is it a bsc fail? I've got the bsc pdf now so will see what I can find in there but I wonder what others have done? thank you
  5. Hi All, So not really sure where to put this one, (hope general boating applys) I am still new to the forum and have been reading so much and learning lots from the forum. So thanks to everyone for the knowledge, experience and kindness to share this. I have been having some issues with the plumbing on my new boat, so I had a plumber come along to fix a few leaks (he came recommended by a boatyard) I wanted to get a washer dryer fitted as he would be doing some work. I got a Miele 2670 washer dryer and he installed the waste to the same outlet as the sink waste, which was how it was before. He said he would cut another hole in the boat to make them both have a separate waste but not until his next visit he had to wait for some parts. I have only been on my boat at the weekends so on firday I turned the water on and had been using things as normal, come sunday eve I noticed a puddle around the washing machine not another leak! I started mopping it up and then checked the filter on the washer (at the bottom of the machine) I emptied 10 buckets of water before getting pissed of doing this. I then opened the washing machine door, admitedly a stupid move. Of course it was FULL of water !! I slammed the door shut straight away, my next idea was to run a spin wash on the machine, this then started to drain the water. But also almost overflowed the sink, as the water was pushed out of the machine it came up the plug hole. I ran another spin wash but the machine kept leaking for a few hours after as there was water all inside the machine. I tiped it on an angle and left a towel to try and drain the machine itself. As you can imagine a stressful and anoying thing to have to do on a sunday evening. Now I an annoyed and frustrated and am not sure what to do, the plumber has to come back to finish some work. He never said I couldnt use the sink !! in fact he tested the sink to make sure it was working ok, I am under the impression the waste water has gone into the washing machine. Can anyone shed any light on what might have happened? or give some adive on what I should do next, I have emailed miele to see if I could have done any damage to my new(to me) washer dryer. Thanks for reading, Look forward to your replied. Martin

  7. Just wanted to share with you all one little victory today Finally fired up my washing machine. No leaks, nothing blew up. The machine ran well off the Victron inverter. It's a Bosch WFF2000 - I couldn't find details of its water/power consumption but it didn't seem to greedy according to my water gauge. I did have a problem with the power early on - the voltage to the inverter dropped to under 11v and a red light warned me of low voltage. This was with the engine idling, so I increased revs but to no avail - seemed for a moment as though I'd knackered the alternators output. But after switching off the machine, letting the batteries get a bit of charge then resuming the wash cycle at higher engine revs, things went ok. Just a question of learning how things like to be treated. I wonder why the alternator output dropped right off then came back though. Hopefully just a normal safety feature but it should be good for 175a which is ... a lot. (couple kw?) Maybe trying to supply the machine and the hungry batteries was just too much for it - I'll start with higher revs and/or better charged batteries next time, now I know. Still good though! Clean underwear
  8. Afternoon! Quick(ish) query. We are continuous cruisers with a 63ft narrowboat - no shore-power. We are planning to get a washer dryer, just to do a couple of washes every fortnight or so. We have an inverter (Mastervolt 12/2000 - power 2000w, max 4000w), battery bank, charge from engine type set up. The washer dryers we are looking at all have a power rating of around 2100 to 2200w. I just want to know whether the inverter could handle this machine (with the engine running of course)? We have a 3.2 genny but it is noisy and would rather not use it and also I see that there can be problems with washing machines not working from gennies cos of the sine wave blah blah (I know nothing about this). I know that they are thirsty on water etc etc and some people don't agree with having them if you are a cc without shore-power etc etc, but if we run it once a fortnight for maybe 4 or 5 hours can we do this using our present inverter whilst running the engine (either whilst cruising or stationary)? Does the 4000w maximum inverter spec mean that it can comfortably deal with a machine drawing 2200w?? Hope you can help! Mike
