  1. Thanks Martin. Your regular 'Link' updates have been great. We have planned a 'round' trip via. Ship Canal > Mersey > Liverpool Link > Wigan etc . Two boats booked in so far. All the Ship Canal guys need is a date from us and we are away. If you want any photos for the WW news.. let me know. Black Pearl & Brahmms We need to use Brunswick Lock. I think that will be a first ( do you know if there has been a Canal boat in this new lock yet) I'm going to phone Wigan again tomorrow to make sure they have us on the list for the Salthouse moorings and Liverpool to Wigan bit. I booked this trip in Feb. so don't want to get stuck with a Liverpool Marina berth in Brunswick Dock whilst BW sort out the return trip through Bootle....( cant afford that).
  2. Oops > Take a look at the Barbridge bump. ( dont know how to create the google map link >> Just Google Map 'Barbridge' and zoom in on the junction )
  3. Interesting... If Fred says so, I suppose it must be April.. However just to be sure I'll wait for Ken Barlow and Eccles to do the official announcement.. Email ( 23/2) from BW projects at Balfour Beatty said 'Spring 09' We have started provisional arrangements for Ship Canal / Mersey leg. But still awaiting someone at BW (Wigan) to confirm arrangements for entering the South docks from the river.
  4. Anyone planning anything for Easter 09 at Liverpool ? Assuming that the Liverpool link is open at Easter 09. I want to plan a round trip from Barbridge. i.e. Barbridge > Anderton Lift > Weaver > Ship Canal > Eastham > Albert Dock > Liverpool Link > Leeds Liverpool > Wigan > Leigh Branch > Bridgewater > Preston Brook > Trent & Mersey > Middlewich Branch. We did a similar loop (in reverse) via. Langdon River entrance in '98, on the way to Salford Quays for the National. So it would be good to do this again .. I'll need some company on the Ship Canal and Mersey stretch... Anyone interested. I'm sure Liverpool District IWA will have something organised for Easter 09 , but all seems quiet. ( Chester and District are very quite about the L'pool Link - am I moving in the wrong canal circles ?) Any news on Easter 09 in Liverpool would be useful.

  6. Has anybody any views on building an MDF box around the engine in a cruiser style narrowboat. I think this will help keep the noise down, but am a little concerned on how much space to leave inside to facilitate cooling. Is 3 inches all round OK with the box resting on the engine bearers (thus about 6 or 7 inches clearance at the bottom, as well). Anyone done this before..?
