As the owner of nb "Fruit of The Vine", reviewed in Canalboat mag dec 2010, the Canaline 42 has proved to be a nost reliable engine. It has slightly more torque than the HMI Isuzu equivalent and otherwise perfoms in a similar way. From the DIY standpoint it is very easy to change the oil and filter. I had an initial problem, that turned out not to be an engine fault, and Bob Cantwell visited the boat with no hesitation and so can certainly vouch for their after sales service. Hope this helps.

Just seen your post. Hedley & Co have certainly left Isuzu and set up a new company in Berkley, Gloustershire. They are introducing a new engine range to the British narrowboat market and I believe that I am their first private customer with my boat being due for launch in May of this year. Keith

My fail safe emergency alert signal is nothing more than a referees whistle! The frequency of the whistle is such that it can be heard over and above all engine noise. I have a very loud air cooled Lister HR2 engine that thumps away amidships and the whistle has never failed to attract my wifes attention. It gets put out onto the hatch at the beginning of each day and so I always know where it is.
