  1. Yes but you understand and care for old things. The average ebay seller flogging what they describe as 'semi-industrial' doesn't care.
  2. It breaks my heart to see these beautiful old machines neglected. Please don't split the accessories off and sell them separately. Someone that I used to chat to on a sewing forum (which has now disappeared) used to go to auctioneers local to her in North Yorks to see whether they had any sewing machines. I was so jealous as we don't seem to have any near me in South London. If you have any local auctioneers that might be a way of selling them. It is really difficult to pack a machine adequately for a courier, and I have seen several instances of machines damaged beyond repair by being sent by ebay sellers without adequate packing and protection.
  3. I very much doubt that the majority of camping sites would accept it.
  4. Is there room on the floor in front of the toilet to have a tubtrug wide enough to stand in to collect the water? And something like this to hang a shower curtain that could end up inside the tubtrug? I accept that it might cling to you at times, but if you want to have a shower in a tiny space .... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HOME-Circular-Shower-Rail-Chrome-Finish-From-the-Official-Argos-Shop-on-ebay/331179856206?hash=item4d1bdb914e:g:Q28AAOSwBt5ZMA7h W+T has just posted links to camping showers that I was looking for. It depends whether you have a suitable 12v socket for the powered ones.
  5. I wasn't thinking about the cost as much as the bother of having to buy replacement cylinders frequently.
  6. It seems to me that another disadvantage of electric propulsion is going to be the loss of "free" hot water from the engine. I don't remember any mention of provision for hot water in the early posts on the thread. Having said that doesn't the owner of Waterway Routes have an electric, or at least hybrid, boat? Does anyone know how he heats water? As I understand it gas bottles do not last long when used for water heating.
  7. Trading Standards departments of councils and the CAB are not the same thing. I used to do casework in a Govt department and I can assure you that our work load was such that we didn't have time to be deliberately obstructive.

  13. So there are - I've never noticed those. I see there is one for directions, too. Thanks.
  14. I know. It doesn't seem to work like google maps, but I find it useful for the Ordnance Survey view and Bird's Eye is better for picking out detail than the direct overhead. I never see it mentioned here (probably because of the lack of direct linking) so thought I would post it any way.
  15. There is a narrowboat in it on the Bird's Eye view on Bing Maps!! Also some sort of building or something. https://www.bing.com/maps?mkt=en-gb
  16. Surely this is 100% cotton, and therefore completely natural? Also, I don't see where it says that it is waterproof? I think you would need to paint it. In my experience sewing, anything sold as craft fabric is usually of low quality. I don't know how much you will need, but this place sells loomstate (basically unbleached and needs washing) and if you buy more than 3 metres the price reduces, and again at 10 metres. Loomstate should be OK if you are going to paint it. http://www.whaleys-bradford.ltd.uk/fabrics/section-b-cotton-calico-loomstate-cottons-canvas?limit=36
  17. They may indeed, and if I put up a series of videos on Youtube they would be welcome to comment on my presentation style. I must say that I don't understand the comments about deck prisms not working at night. Nothing lets in light when it is dark, that is why we have artificial lighting. I thought that the prisms let in a decent amount of light whilst preserving privacy, if that is required, and from above rather than through the side, so possibly more effective on dull days.
  18. I came across 'Deck Prisms' as a way of letting light in through the ceiling/roof.through watching this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9qsiQNIlK0 (I have to say that this couple grate on me, and I can't see me watching any more of their offerings.)
  19. If the OP was happy keeping foodstuffs cool in a bucket of water before, why not simply carry on doing so? That would avoid potential contamination from canal water.

  22. I'm convinced that either you skim-read this thread, or you haven't read it all. As Alan de Enfield stated above, in post 71, access to a narrowboat is likely to be a real issue for Calranthe's wife, Paola. Most of them have ladder-like access down 4 or 5 rungs, often at both ends.
  23. I have mobility problems, and Paola's sound similar. I think the idea of sturdy steps with wide treads so that she can feel herself firmly planted before she makes her next move would be the way to go. The other thing that would be of great assistance is plenty of grab handles, so that she could have 3 points of contact at a time.
  24. According to their website Freaky Friday is 7th April. 20% off in store and online.
