  7. I see a lot of people slow down as they approach locks and things, but in general the speed on the water seems pretty regular. Although maybe its something to do with individual boats? Like if there is nobody aboard you could go faster?
  8. How expensive is it? Eventually I'd like to move to Ireland, and take the boat, although I suppose cruising is more limited?
  9. 99p store it is I think I'd prefer to use the bio stuff, reckon its more environmentally friendly. Do pump outs smell worse?
  10. I think we can go to about 100k; is it true there are finance plans available from a bank? I talk to quite a few people in between periods of college and at the weekend and someone said [sorry, I can never remember names!] that because it was becoming a more popular venture some/a bank was offering a differently based loan system. Sorry, thats probably in the wrong thread :/
  11. it has to be said, the moomintrolls were pretty cool.

  12. I'm leaning more towards buying a broadbeam, and although this will restrict me from going up north - i accept this - i think that with three people aboard in a marina in winter its a better option. Scott is rather tall as well, and it would be nice to live in a wide corridor rather than a corridor That has SO much more space than the narrowboats I've seen. Sorry, stupid moment. But seriously, Would it be possible to have two closed off bedrooms on a widebeam, both with double beds? Or is that being too ambitious?
  13. People have told us a lot of different things about pump outs/cassettes, and so far we're wanting a cassette. But then again the cheap toilet paper in the public toilets can be shiny and I'm not sure I'd want that. Is the enzyme/bio type chemical thing more expensive than the blue?
  14. Dunno if its relevant, but I heard that a widebeam can go anywhere on a river/canal as long as its not liverpool/leeds in which case the canals are too narrow. Somebody has taken a broadbeam from one end of the country to another, so there must be an alternative route?
